Chickenpox, 34 weeks pregnant

There has been a case of chickenpox in my child’s room at nursery. I am 34 weeks pregnant. I’ve had chickenpox as a child. Do I need to be concerned about this, and would it be an issue if my child caught it? I can’t find info online about whether to be concerned (as I had it as a child) and I don’t want to phone the GP unnecessarily. Thanks!

If you've already had it then you are immune. In very rare cases can you get it twice Smile If you are unsure you can get a test from the GP but if you remember having it, you'll be fine x

@dramallama42 My son had it about a month ago and I'm pregnant - all good! He even had HFM before that (managed to escape it) 🎉

I hope your little one manages to miss it 🤞🏼 x

Our eldest 2 had it when I was pregnant with our 3rd. My mum couldn't remember if I'd had it as a child but all was fine with me and baby, she then got the pox at 7mth old.
If you'd not had them you could get antiviral meds.

I am having my immunity checked for chicken pox and slapped cheek due to working in early years and regular outbreaks. When I spoke to the consultant about it, she said that they keep the blood taken from booking and can order a test on that. I know every area does things differently but worth asking.

Might be worth seeing if the GP will check you for antibodies. If you have them you will be fine

I asked my midwife this a couple of months ago as there was a case in DD class at school. She said if I'd had it as a child that's okay, if not I'd need a blood test to check if I was immune which I would need to contact my GP for.
