Cesarean infections

Has anyone had issues with their cesarean scar and infections? I had an emergency section in October and am currently on my 3rd infection! Each time my scar has opened up in the middle and I've just noticed the right side is starting to do the same. I've been on 3 lots of antibiotics and now have steroid cream to put on aswell. I clean it everyday and go in a salt water bath everyday and make sure its dry but I just can't seem to get a break. Someone suggested sterile talc to stop the sweating as its on a fold. Any advice and tips on how to help it heal would be much appreciated x

Just wanted to offer some sympathy. This sounds awful. I had one infection but it healed relatively quickly and didn't recur.

I'd say if you are home 'airing' the wound as much as you can will help, and I do remember using talc as soon as it was closed enough (but maybe check that with doc). I also blow dried the area after a shower / bath to make sure it was really dry to start with.

Have you been discharged from mid wife care? Who are you seeing?

With my third c section I had a couple of infections, lots of lying down getting fresh air to it really helped(hard with a small baby I know). Hairdryer it on a very low heat post bath to get it really dry too. I hope it starts to get better soon, it’s horrible.

I've had four sections. When mine started getting red and sticky I use the bars of Dettol soap to clean it and then used to lie there letting the air get to it as much as possible.

Did they take swabs? Are they treating the right infection? My mum had a terrible surgical wound that would not heal and it turned out to be MRSA.

The other thing is that you could consider a collagen supplement, especially if you’re vegetarian.

Thank you, ill try airing it and using the hairdryer after washing, I've got it covered with gauze sheets following advice from my doctor so haven't been airing it much. I've been discharged from mid wife care, I am now going to my local GP x

@Flamingolingo they have taken swabs each time. Will have the results from the most recent one next week. Your poor mum!

You poor thing Flowers

Mine got infected but only once and cleared up with antibiotics. The pain was something else.

A tip for scar healing once this has cleared up is silicon strips. I had awful sensation issues, numbness underneath it and hyper sensitivity above and one side was really raised and bumpy. I got them off Amazon and all the feeling went back to normal and it’s much flatter.

All wishes this lot of ABs works quickly. It sucks.

@AnneLovesGilbert thank you Star ill defo try the silicon strips after the infection has healed x
