How do put your shoes on?

MiracleBaby2022 · 03/12/2021 22:50

I'm only 23+3 but I'm really struggling to put my shoes on let alone tie my shoelaces, so sometimes I just wear my crocs out and about when I can't face the hassle! Is this how crocs make all their money? Just a ton of pregnant women who can't put their shoes on? 😂 Seriously though, crocs are no good for a long walk with the dog in the winter...

I had a pair of Clarks Unstructured shoes with no laces - just slide your feet in, no need to bend! I owned them already and they were really comfortable. Half the hospital staff had the same brand!

CelloYouveGotABass · 03/12/2021 22:55

What part are you struggling with? I’m 39 weeks and don’t have an issue. Just have to bend knees instead of middle

MiracleBaby2022 · 03/12/2021 23:06

@Latenightreader I've been looking at something similar online - thinking I can't go through the winter like this. Laceless is the way forward!

4 kids and Never had this issue!

flowersforyou · 03/12/2021 23:09

I am 33 weeks and I wear slip on Vans, got mine in the sale and they're so easy if you want to nip to the shops. I find it really difficult to lean forward cause it hurts my stomach so if I am putting different shoes on I bend my leg so the side and lean over😂

MiracleBaby2022 · 03/12/2021 23:10

@CelloYouveGotABass all of it. Bending forwards, struggling to get to my shoes whichever way I try. I mean I can just about do it still, but I can't imagine how I would be able to once I get bigger than this! 😂 I should add I've got quite a bump at 23+3, but still...

I’m 27 weeks and a) I struggle to put in my shoes cos it basically shoves bile into my mouth cos I’ve brutal heartburn and b) I struggle to get into my shoes cos my feet are huge. And thoughts on what shoes I should buy? Will look at those suggested above!

MiracleBaby2022 · 03/12/2021 23:14

@flowersforyou me too! Exactly the same. I can't bend over at all without really hurting my belly. Plus it's just too big to do it. I think I must be quite bulky at the front, the midwife told me it was "very prominent" already at 17 weeks! Definitely need to get some slip-ons otherwise I'll soon need someone to put on my shoes for me 😂

@MiracleBaby2022 my husband puts them on for me 😂 don’t feel the dismissed by some of the dismissive comments OP! It’s a real struggle and I completely relate, don’t get me started on socks 😂

EarCatVega · 04/12/2021 00:09

I use a long handled shoe horn and I keep my trainers tied up!

magicalmama · 04/12/2021 00:16

My partner does it for me!

If he's not around I just sit down and put one leg out to the left then one out to the right to do it by leaning to the side, because I can't lean directly forward like I could before without it hurting.

Evianontoast · 04/12/2021 03:36

I've started putting them on round the back - by which I mean I slip them on as much as I can while standing straight and then kick my foot backward and up toward my bum. I then reach round the back to pull the rest of them on (with the other hand usually holding me steady on a bannister)! I must look like a crazy kicking donkey but it works!!!

MiracleBaby2022 · 04/12/2021 07:26

@AllSinging haha mine has on a couple of occasions too - at least they're proving useful for something 😂

Nah, don't feel dismissed, I think our bodies are just different and so some will struggle real badly and others won't. I am (was) very slim and petite body shape before becoming pregnant and the belly is just huge on me, I don't know if that got anything to do with it but I'm definitely buying a pair of slip-on shoes! I already own crocs and a pair of low slip on wellies, but neither of them are great for walking very far in.

As for socks, I have toe-socks - imagine... 😂

@EarCatVega I came back in last night thinking the same, I'm definitely leaving my shoelaces tied up as of today! Need to dig out that shoehorn - I've got a really long one somewhere.

@Evianontoast I think we should do a postcard series of all the different ways a pregnant woman puts her shoes on! 😂

My feet were so swollen I had to buy a bigger size. I got some Chelsea boots but with no zip, just big elastic panels.

JustWonderingIfYou · 04/12/2021 07:38

Not a massive problem for me but I so have along handled shoe horn- ikea do a nice cheap one. I use when my back is playing up. You do sound like you are physically struggling very early- maybe once bump.has popped out more it might actually be easier for you- once its out of your ribs.

TooMinty · 04/12/2021 07:49

My feet/legs swelled up in the last few weeks of pregnancy so I bought a pair of those fake Ugg boots they sell in Primark - two sizes up from my normal size! So easy to get on and off (just step in/out) and pretty comfy. Looked ok with most outfits and only cost £7.

Jane2021 · 04/12/2021 07:53

I lived in flip flops for my last pregnancy but that's mostly because my pre pregnancy shoes didn't fjt and I'm a fan of flip flops anyway 😂

HardbackWriter · 04/12/2021 07:58

I never had this problem either (I painted my toenails while in labour the first time!) but I'm tall - I think the taller you are the less problems the bump tends to cause you because it's a smaller percentage of you... I drove up to going into labour with both pregnancies, too and never understood what people were talking about when they said about not fitting behind the steering wheel until I saw a short pregnant friend try - she didn't have a lap anymore, if you're tall you don't entirely lose your lap! So ignore anyone acting like you're being silly - it is definitely dependent on your body.

But what I was going to say that is hopefully more helpful than 'have you considered growing?' is that I do now favour shoes that I can get on and off without bending down because I so often have a baby in a sling on me - and I would recommend M&S Chelsea boots (the ones with some elastic at the side of the ankle) for this, I find they come on and off easily with no fastening but don't feel too loose while on.

MiracleBaby2022 · 04/12/2021 08:37

@HardbackWriter I'm 5’6” - so not sure if that's considered short (?), but my belly has always been very popped out right from the beginning. As the midwife said "it's very prominent" and I've not really had that 'in my rib cage' thing, but either way I'm struggling and I've always preferred lazy shoes that slip on easily anyway so I'll just get another pair a bit more walking-the-dog-friendly ones I think!

MiracleBaby2022 · 04/12/2021 08:38

@Jane2021 haha me too, but it's winter! 🥶

OP posts:
MiracleBaby2022 · 04/12/2021 08:42

@JustWonderingIfYou just realised I replied to the wrong person but anyway my bump has always been "very prominent" as the midwife said, so no ribcage thing, but anyway I'm definitely getting another pair of slip-on shoes! Anything to make life more comfortable for the months ahead.

MiracleBaby2022 · 04/12/2021 08:43

@TooMinty not had any leg swelling (yet), but sizing up is definitely a good idea!

MiracleBaby2022 · 04/12/2021 08:45

@restbakerest the elastic band ones look very easy, I thought maybe some Velcro ones could work too.
