Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice. I am double vaccinated but have shown positive on lateral flow tests just waiting on pcr results. I rang the midwife to ask what tablets I could take and was told paracetamol but on top of that she mentioned blood thinning injections for 2 weeks to prevent blood clots, if I am positive. I’m not sure whether to take these or not. Does anyone have any experience of these?

I'd take them. A healthcare professional has advised it's medically necessary.

COVID infection can cause blood clots, in the placenta as well as elsewhere. This can be very dangerous and can increase the risk of late-term pregnancy loss.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for the information and the well wishes x

I have had these injections while in hospital (not with Covid but morning sickness), it’s standard practice in our hospital if your on a ward due to limited movement and being in bed all day. No issues having them while I was pregnant.

Yes take them. I had them after having my eldest. Hope you are feeling OK.

I had to have fragmin injections for a week at 38 weeks- baby and me were fine. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Aw thank you all. It’s definitely making me feel better about it knowing others have had them x

Pregnancy increases your risk of developing blood clots anyway - add Covid into the mix and the risk increases again. I would follow the advice to get the blood thinning shots.

I had a Covid at 30 weeks pregnant. I phoned my hospital and the midwife to let them know but they didn't offer or even mentioned anything about the injections. How's your symptoms? Mine were mild so maybe that's why?

Yes I would. There have been many cases shown that your blood coagulates when you have COVID hence why it causes further problems so you absolutely should. Blood clotting will impact the placenta. So yes, definitely do have them. I currently am pregnant and have daily blood thinning injections as I already have a clotting issue.

Hope you are feeling OK, thank goodness you are double jabbed!
Make sure to call your GP or 111 if you start feeling short of breath or have chest pain later this week. Get well soon

Thank you, yes I’ve had 2 days of feeling achy and a bit of a fever but today it’s just a bit of a cold 🤞🏼The vaccines are doing their job x

I've been having to do daily anticoagulant injections (fragmin first, but ended up with an allergy so then was switched to fondaparinux) during my entire pregnancy. I will also have to continue it for 6 weeks after. I'm currently 36w5d and been doing that from the beginning. It's safe to use.
