When would you stay off work with morning sickness/nausea?

How bad is your morning sickness if you have taken time off work? I'm 7 weeks. I was sent home yesterday after struggling badly for a few days, ended up having a funny dizzy episode when I went to sit in a chair, almost fell off and spent the next 10 minutes retching over toilet. I've called off sick today as I felt terrible when I got up, constantly on the edge of vomiting, mouth filling with saliva, feeling like the floors uneven and the walls are closing in on me. I've felt like that for the past few days, all day long. Lying down flat and completely still seems to help but it's not very practical for work!

I feel awful as my work is so busy right now and I know they'll struggle without me. And I'm not often physically vomiting (although I have a few times). I don't want anyone to think I'm being a wimp about it. Currently waiting on a doctor's appointment to discuss anti nausea.

Any advice?

I’m 11 weeks and have been so ill for nearly 6 weeks now. I’ve taken a couple of days off work and just tried to limp through but wish i hadn’t. It hasn’t helped and no one thanks you for it! Put it this way if you felt OK you would just be getting on with it, but if you’re feeling the way you do you can’t work.

@hollygoloudly1

I am 12 weeks and have been signed of for the last 4 weeks due to sickness and just covered exhaustion

Like you I feel so terribly guilty as my work is also very busy , but the most Important thing ia yours and your babies health

I have posted on here several times about taking time of work due to this

People often say to me , if you were not pregnant and you were feeling this way, would you still be going to work ? Probably not!!

I would advise you to get signed of , take it easy and rest

Like many people have said to me , you will end up going to work and getting sent home again

I also suffered, but only got 5 days paid sick per year - so whilst my doctor could sign me off it wasn't an option unfortunately. I ended up using half day holidays when things got really bad. How about negotiating some part time hours until you feel better? It was awful though, I remember being sick 14 times in one day once, utterly miserable.

I had hyperemesis had 2 months off work.

I was sick every single day of the 9 months with DS (sorry). It just became normal, something you have to do like going to the loo.

Weirdly my body only seemed to do it when it was convenient, I was never sick on public transport or during a meeting for example, but did have to go straight to the toilets when meetings ended.

I didn't have any time off, but although I was sick often, maybe I wasn't feeling that ill.

I was signed off work for about 6 weeks. I was only sick a few times per day but felt absolutely awful 24/7. I'm not one to be a martyr so I was more than happy for the doctor to sign me off.
