I am due my second covid jab today, I have put it off throughout my whole pregnancy - I am 28 weeks now. I am so unsure as to what to do, if its safe, if it might harm the baby and it has been so difficult getting any concrete information from anyone - healthcare professionals included. It feels like no one really knows and its really un nerving - its such a bog decision. What are peoples thoughts on this.
I feel like i can be really carful and put it off for another 2 months until after the birth but then again if i get covid now it can be terrible ...
@DiamondSnow for me (and this is just my own experience) the uncertainty comes from being told that AstraZeneca is not readily recommended/given to pregnant women, yet because I had my 1st one pre-pregnancy, it “will be fine” for me to have during pregnancy. I’ve done a lot of reading into it but sadly for AZ there’s not as much real life data (in comparison to the other vaccines) and all the information is based off similar vaccines. I also have not been offered an alternative for my 2nd dose, just told that it would be AZ.
I can understand that re. AZ

I am sure I have seen lots of people on here saying that thry switched to pfizer once pregnant. I wonder if there is another vaccination centre near you who would let you go down that route?

I had AZ first dose the pfizer second although that was pre-pregnancy and I live abroad so quite different circumstances! Just had pfizer for my 3rd and currently lying in bed sleeping it off!

Thanks so much everyone for the feedback - i spoke to a second midwife today and she said 100% have it and have the Pfizer as recommended so I am going head and having the 2nd dose.
It makes sense as everyone is saying: its so much worse getting covid that what it could possibly be having the vaccine so thats my desiscion made and thanks again for all the feedback . Its really helped reassuring me. X

Yes @DiamondSnow - i had to go via my GP to be able to get Pfizer instead of AZ as no clinic or walk in would do it as regulations have just recently changed.

I have a (health) research background, and I strongly recommend getting all COVID vaccines. I hope that helps : )

I understand being concerned, but there is now massive amounts of evidence to show that tens of thousands of pregnant women have been vaccinated with no ill effects to them or their baby.

On the other hand, a worrying number of pregnant women have become critically ill and died from Covid, or their babies have been still born. So on balance, it seems Covid is more dangerous.

I had both my vaccinations when I was pregnant. I caught covid at 27 weeks so had to wait until my third trimester before I had my second vaccine. I was advised by the consultant to have the vaccine. I now have a perfectly healthy 3 month old dd.
