Feeling baby move

I'm coming up 19 weeks now and still no definite movements with my second baby. Nothing in my notes to suggest anterior placenta. I occasionally get little flutters but it could just as easily be wind as baby movements.

I don't remember feeling ds move until after my 20 week scan but people keep saying you should be able to feel things much sooner with subsequent pregnancies. Should I be worried?

I am placemarking if you don’t mind as I was going to ask the same question. I’m 18+2 with my first pregnancy and no discernible movements yet, I know it sounds silly as it’s early still (sonographer at the weekend said between 20-25 weeks) but it’s starting to worry me and get me down a bit.

I just don’t understand how I can have a wriggly 15cm long baby in my uterus (which is just below my belly button) and not feel it!

I'm not an expert but this is my third pregnancy and I didn't start feeling definite movements until 20 weeks. They only really picked up in frequency at 21 weeks, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I think that period is really tricky, when you've had your first scan and you're expecting to feel relieved but actually you just find new stuff to stress about. It doesn't help when people keep telling you that you should be feeling movements by now.

@TashieWoo in your situation I wouldn't worry too much, in your first pregnancy you can be closer to 24 weeks before you feel anything. I know mine was definitely after my 20 week scan as I remember thinking 'oh he's moving.'

I keep reading that in a second pregnancy you can feel movements as early as 13 weeks! So yeah it's a worry and I'm counting down the days until my 20 week scan.

@jingletits36 I was in the same boat. At 20 weeks I literally had felt NOTHING (besides gas, but we all know what THAT feels like!). Then I hit 23/24 weeks, and lo and behold, I'm growing Lionel Messi in there. Now at 32+ weeks, and I'm literally begging (out loud!) this kid not to kick my bladder at 4 in the morning.

Thank you @jingletits36 I hope you get to feel your baby soon - presumably your 20 week scan is next week?

I know this also sounds silly but I’m trying to reassure myself that everything is probably okay, in the absence of any pain/bleeding. Although still early, I like to think at this stage one would know about it if something was wrong.

A friend who is 6 weeks ahead of me didn’t feel her baby move for a few days because he was facing the wrong way as well… I think at the moment they are small and have more space so it is easier for them to hide themselves somewhere we can’t feel them if that makes sense.

Best wishes for your pregnancy Flowers

I have an anterior placenta and the baby definitely goes more quiet in terms of movement for a few days then picks back up. I imagine he moves behind the placenta and that’s why I can’t feel him. I am 23 weeks now and have had movement for a while. I think everyone is different but they make a point of 28 weeks being when to count kicks from as it’s hard to notice anything regular before then. I was worried I had covid a few weeks back and movement stopped but didn’t even manage to get a call back about that one. I imagine as it’s too early to do much.
