Any Midwives or Doulas around?

I went to hospital on Saturday morning and am now trying to decipher my notes. What does a soft cervix mean? Any ideas on what N7 written next to it might translate into? It's next to a weird hexagonal drawing...

I have to go back tomorrow so will ask then but am massively impatient so any help would be great! TIA

how far gone are you? soft cervix usually means its prep for labour i think........

Santasmissyontheside · 16/12/2007 21:52

cervix is usually long and not soft iykwim? the closer yoou get to having bubs the cervix ripens becomes softer and starts shortening.

I'm 28 weeks - cervix is closed which is apparently a good sign but they were slightly concerned because I had a mucus-y discharge followed a day later by a rush of watery liquid but nothing since. Very odd! Wait and see and cross my legs I think

Santasmissyontheside · 16/12/2007 21:58

yes cervix closed is good. just your body slowly preparing itself. has a lot to do! not sure what the other bit meant?

Santasmissyontheside · 16/12/2007 22:00

cant remember what the drawing thingy means think its to do with what they found from exam

funnypeCOOLYULEiar · 16/12/2007 22:07

oh, they did that hexagon drawing on my notes when I was in & out with ds (4 years ago) - remember asking what it was, but can't remember now (sorry, not much help am I - but am at least bumping for someone more knowledgeable!)

Snaf · 16/12/2007 22:37

The hexagon is probably a drawing of your abdomen believe it or not! ie. what they felt when they examined your bump. Sometimes they mark the position baby is lying in (quite tricky at 28 weeks though) or mark if you have abdominal tenderness etc.

Can't think what N7 is.

Cervix soft - did they do a vaginal exam?! or a speculum?

You might want to shout out for mears. She'll know!

As everyone else has said about the cx.

Hexagon is definately the abdomen, N7 is probably NT - Non Tender, remember, doctors cant write properly

Yeh drawing is abdomen. I think cervix softens as getting ready for labour but good sign that cervix still closed. Hope all goes well
