Waters breaking

I'm 40+1

I have had dull period pain the past two nights, not cramps as such just dull ache which then gets better in day.

This morning I woke and went to the bathroom. On returning to my bedroom I felt warm water between my legs and thought but I just went! So I rushed to the toliet again and passed quite a bit of clear liquid.

I have changed my underwear and going to monitor if any more.....Is this my waters ? Has anyone else experienced similar? Anything you recommend me doing to monitor? I will phone triage also but just trying to stay calm!

Yes it does sound like your waters. Mine never "gushed" it just trickled out over a few hours.
Hope it all goes well!!!Daffodil

My waters leaked constantly throughout labour. I knew it was my waters for so many reasons: it was involuntary, just kept gushing; I could feel where it was coming from iyswim; it neither looked nor smelled like urine; it just kept coming.

Pop a pad in your knickers and lie down for a while. If it is your waters then when you stand up, they should gush again. The midwives can then check the pad and test them to confirm.

I think they usually advise you to give the midwives a call to let them know that your waters have broken. As PP have said - put a pad in your underwear so they can see colour etc. if you don’t go into established Labour within a certain period, they may need to monitor you or consider other things due to risk of infection (so just call and inform them).

Good luck!

Sounds like mine. Went for a wee, stood up thought “oh I’m not done”, three times in a row 🤪 Walked back to the car (10 min walk) by the time we were home my knickers were soaked.
You can call up to let the hospital know but hopefully contractions should start within 24 hours. I was in stop start labour for 72 hours before they then put me on a drip (I was 6/7cm at that point). They also had me on antibiotics as they left me a few days to get me to 37 weeks.

The smell is very characteristic, almost impossible to mistake for anything else.

Mine did this, I went for a wee, got back into bed and felt a small gush, and then when I moved after that got little gushes, they went completely about two hours later and DD was born quickly after that

Yep you go to triage and they check your pad. Exciting!

Happened to me both times but a huge dramatic gush like in the movies. Was convinced much like the movies the baby was coming imminently. Rang the hospital and they didn’t give a shit 😂 interestingly with my first baby they said to come in when contractions were however far apart - this was probably 7 or so hours later. With my second the same happened but I was at a different hospital and they said I would need to come into the labour ward within 4 hours to be checked so it’s probably worth calling to see what the policies are as they are different apparently. With my first baby they tried to send me home but because my waters had gone hours before I had to stay for monitoring and he was born before they got a satisfactory reading 😂
