anterior placenta

I know everyone is different just would like to hear from women who have/had an anterior placenta and when to expect to feel movement?

I'm 18 weeks and haven't felt a thing well I thought maybe I did the other day but not 100% sure Hmm and they say as a first time mum it's harder as you aren't really sure what you are looking out for?!

So when did you start feeling the small flutters and when did you start to fully notice the kicks ect?

First time baby, anterior placenta. I felt a “boing” at 21w6d, and since then I’ve felt what I assume are kicks, most days. Currently 23w2d

InTheNightWeWillWish · 29/11/2021 18:52

About 19 weeks. It wasn’t a flutter for me, more like a twitch or twinge. It was sort of like a small cramp, not really painful and just in a localised spot. They turned from twitches/cramps to noticeable movements about 22/23 weeks. DH was able to feel kicks externally at 24 weeks.

It was around 18/19 weeks when I started to feel sloshing and mild thumps but they were really only noticable when I drank something cold and lay down and concentrated. At the 20 weeks scan baby was dancing about but I couldn't feel a thing! Now at 29 weeks they are much more noticeable and I'm starting to notice a pattern and my partner can feel the movement too, finally.
It has been a very different experience to my last pregnancy which didn't have an anterior placenta.

I completely skipped the “quickening” phase and went to full on kicks or jabs that my partner is able to feel from 20 weeks. I have an anterior but have a sneaking suspicion it’s situated more to the left as I feel baby so much on the right hand side of my abdomen.

Shmithecat2 · 29/11/2021 19:26

Didn't feel flutters until about 22 weeks, proper kicks didn't start until about 25 weeks, and then did not stop until ds was born.

First time was around 19/20 weeks, definitely just before my 20wk scan. It was like tapping quite low down. This time I've felt movement from just before 16 weeks but it was more swishing, something moving in water type feeling. Now it's changed to kicks for the last couple of weeks.

I have an anterior placenta and absolutely hate it! I didn't feel any movement for much longer than most people...

Ended up feeling movement at 26 weeks (I'm 28 weeks tomorrow).

I now feel really big kicks during the day and very very faint ones in the evening - 9 days after feeling first movement my partner was able to put his hand on my belly and feel a massive kick...

If you don't feel anything at 25 weeks they get you to go in regularly for reduce movement appointments where they basically just listen to the babies heart rate regularly 😊

First time mum here….

I had no bubbles or butterflies…

It was more like a horror movie 🤣
I felt “itchy inside” at 19 weeks by 20 it felt like someone had their hand in my lower chest cavity and was tickling me from the inside.😵‍💫😱
I thought I was having some kind of allergic reaction before I worked it out.
It felt creepy AF.

at 23 weeks it was proper kicks which was much better and I feel them fine despite placenta positioning.

KJW000 · 29/11/2021 21:20

Thanks for all your replies!! Smile I guess it's just a wait and see game then and could start to feel first movements anytime from now up to 24 weeks!

Kind of gutted as I thought the movements may put my ease at mind a little but oh well as long as baby is healthy and well that's all that matters!!

Twitches and little jabs from about 20 weeks.

Orarewedancer · 29/11/2021 22:29

19+4 for me, and this is my third pregnancy. Felt movement earlier with my first 2 with a posterior placenta so I was quietly panicking as everyone says you usually feel movement earlier in subsequent pregnancies! Until then I thought I maybe felt something, but it was unlikely. Within a week or so of first movements they became very obvious and could feel from the outside from around 21 weeks. I'm 24 weeks now and while they are undeniable, they are still more muted compared to my other two, though plenty of time for that to change!

CC12x · 29/11/2021 22:30

Around 26 weeks. Now 35 weeks and loads of kicking 😄 x

DelurkingAJ · 29/11/2021 22:35

About 20 weeks…both of mine were anterior. I know it’s easy to say it now but you’ll be sick of being beaten up from the inside out by the time you’re at term. At which point DS1 would kick hard enough to wake DH who was curled up against me…I hate to think what it would have been like with a posterior placenta!

Spexy · 29/11/2021 22:36

I didn't feel movement until around 25 weeks with my anterior placenta. I was worried about it being so late on but my daughter has not stopped moving since birth and was walking at 9 months! So please don't worry Smile

changingchanges2 · 29/11/2021 22:45

Probably around 21 or 22 weeks the first time around.

Maybe 18 weeks second time around.

Both anterior placenta.

Bells3032 · 30/11/2021 09:41

FTM. Took til about 23 weeks til i felt deff movement. at 31 weeks still struggling with movement some days depending on her position

Aggy35 · 30/11/2021 09:58

I felt nothing till 24 weeks when she moved and whole belly moved. No flutters.or anything of that type

KJW000 · 30/11/2021 10:25

Thank you everyone for you responses!

Have you found you are more anxious if you can't feel baby as much one day due to the placenta and therefore constant hospital trips check??

And same for if you didn't feel till 21/22+ just feel I will end up going out of my mind with worry!!

I started feeling the odd “flicking” from inside when I was around 18 weeks and my husband felt baby just before our 20wk scan.
I’m 31wks now and still can’t get my head around how different movement can be based on baby’s position. I’m finding it really stressful if I’m honest and have been into hospital on 4 occasions now because some days are so quiet whereas others baby is literally coming through my belly! It’s bizarre and I don’t think the midwives fully understand :(

WakeUpLockie · 30/11/2021 12:59

First baby - 22 weeks ish reliably
Second baby - 11 weeks, genuinely
Third baby - 18 weeks ish. Getting reliable now at 21 weeks.

Yes, all anterior placentas.
