Pregnancy test result anxiety

Hi everyone

I'm new here and we have just started trying to conceive the last couple of months.
On Saturday morning I did a first response strip test and I had a faint second line. My husband said he couldn't even see it so it felt quite ambiguous especially as I've heard about evap lines.
Well early afternoon I used a clear blue digital which came out with the word "pregnant". We were both in shock and thrilled.
Today (Sunday), a clear blue test which gives you how many weeks arrived from Amazon (ordered on Friday night prior to my positive tests!). Like a fool I tested with it this evening, about 8.30pm and it came back negative.
Presumably this is because hcg is a lot less in the evening, but I can't help but feel a bit on edge now. Logically I know it's just because it's in the evening but I assume other people get positive tests in the evening?
I am only 14 dpo and my cycle is usually 25-27 days so I believe I have also missed a period, but would only be by one day. Have other symptoms too such a sore breasts.

Any advice or support would be very welcome!
Thank you!

Hi OP,
I am 12 DPO today--so similar to you. My tests have been pretty faint which had me worried but I had my pregnancy confirmed with an HCG blood test and all is fine. Are you able to get this done as well for your peace of mind? I would try not to worry about it as hard as it because you are still very early into your pregnancy and doing an at home test in the evening isn't going to be as reliable.

Bells3032 · 29/11/2021 04:30

The digital ones are far less sensitive and taking it in the evening was a bad idea. Sorry. Sorry its caused you confusion and you've probably wasted an expensive test. Try again in the morning is all we can say really.

Wisher88 · 29/11/2021 05:50

Thank you both so much.
I've just done a test with FMU and it's confirmed I'm pregnant, 1-2 weeks (post ovulation, which translates to 3-4 weeks I believe).
I'm too new a member to post a photo but will do when I can. Excited to call my doctor later and get the next steps in place.
Congratulations @rosewater20 is this also your first?
I feel so lucky and blessed!

Congratulations!

Bells3032 · 29/11/2021 09:12

Congrats. glad it seems it was just doing it in the evening.

Yes 1-2 on the stick means 3-4 weeks.

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/11/2021 09:16

Ooh by the way OP, if you’re in the U.K. you might not need to call your doctor! They generally don’t want to know unless you need to see them for a pregnancy related issue, nor do they ask to confirm you are pregnant with a test. In most areas you self refer to the midwife, who will call you about booking in appointments for when you’re 8/9 weeks.

newyearsresolurion · 29/11/2021 12:39

@WheelieBinPrincess I rang my GP soon after finding out. She made the referral to the midwife. Also worth it to speak to your GP if you’re on any medication

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/11/2021 12:41

@newyearsresolurion it does differ by area- here nothing happens via the GP

Bells3032 · 29/11/2021 12:43

My area you self refer to the midwifes at the local hospital but think its a good thing to tell the GP as well as it gets you on the list for anything you may need like vaccines etc. Also easier if its on your record if you need any meds (e.g. I needed something for acid reflux etc).

Wisher88 · 29/11/2021 13:15

Thanks everyone. I called the doctor's surgery and the receptionist said I just self refer to the midwives team so I've done that via an online form. I got an automatic email saying they'll book me in when I'm 10-12 wks. I am surprised as I thought there were certain tests and screenings they have to do before ten weeks?

OP posts:
mummymummymummummum · 29/11/2021 13:22

I'm afraid not. Those first 6-8 weeks you are generally left to it unless you experience any problems.

Make sure you're taking folic acid. Have a research on the NHS website for foods/activities to avoid. Drink plenty of water. And enjoy being pregnant! Eeek-exciting!!!

Congratulations!! Smile

Bells3032 · 29/11/2021 13:30

@Wisher88 nope. you don't get any help or advice during the first 10 weeks. no tests need to be done prior to that. that's fairly standard

Wisher88 · 29/11/2021 14:21

Oh that contradicts with the NHS website then, as it says they have to screen you for certain things before ten weeks?!

I started taking folic acid in August Smile it's in a capsule for pre/pregnancy with other vitamins (not vitamin A though).

It's exciting but doesn't feel real yet! Just wanting the next eight weeks to go by. Will have to start thinking up my excuses for not drinking alcohol at Christmas!

Glad you got you 1-2 week result this morning :)

I've started taking pregnacare max along with the folic acid, the pharmacist said it's the best one. But I finished up my pre pregnancy ones first she said no point in wasting them and they contain a lot of the same things.

With regards to drinking at Christmas, all you have to say is I don't feel like drinking tonight. Or have a zero beer in a glass/ coke they won't know there isn't anything else in it.

Jane2021 · 02/12/2021 19:32

@Wisher88

Congratulations! I got exactly the same message when I self referred about the midwife team getting in touch at 10-12 weeks. Are you in Hampshire by any chance? I've moved from Wiltshire since my last pregnancy and it was all different there. I called the midwife team and they arranged my booking appointment for 8 weeks there and then so I had a date to work towards

Wisher88 · 02/12/2021 20:03

Yes, I live in Hampshire (Basingstoke). It's my first pregnancy so I really don't know what to expect. I don't like that I don't have someone I can contact directly. Had a scare this eve as there was some pink blood, and I didn't know what to do. I called the early pregnancy team at the hospital but they were dismissive and said to go to my GP tomorrow. It's probably spotting but I have no idea, and with it being so early on, we've not told many people so I can't really ask anyone's advice. The advice online says spotting/light bleeding is normal, but I don't know what that looks like, how much is too much?

OP posts:
Jane2021 · 02/12/2021 20:10

@Wisher88

Hopefully they will be in touch soon to at least arrange the booking appointment, at least then there should be someone specific that can be contacted. It's so hard not to worry though isn't it?!

Twizbe · 02/12/2021 20:14

I bled loads in my pregnancies.

Spotting around your first missed period is very common and it's usually the embryo snuggling into the uterus. This might be pink it might be brown (old blood) too.

I had a few heavy bleed which were due to a haematoma, not as common but not rare either.

Until 6 weeks there really isn't anything they can do, but if the spotting continues go to your GP and they can refer you for an early pregnancy scan.

Wisher88 · 06/12/2021 16:41

Hi everyone, sadly on Friday morning I started miscarrying and as it's early, I've just been dealing with it at home. I am devastated but I know it is likely just random bad luck and not indicative of any bigger problem with having a healthy baby. I am keen to try again early next year as it's shown both me and my husband how much we really do want children and are ready for it. We're in our early 30s and conceived within three months of trying so I'm hoping that we will have positive news again soon.
