Going in to hospital for monitoring

I am going in to the hospital for monitoring on Sunday, I am 32+1 but baby is measuring at 28 so they want to monitor me.

What does this entail? Can my partner come in with me? Do I have to shave downstairs before going!! 😭

Nobody has told me what will happen just wondering if anyone can say from their past experiences?

I was in and out for monitoring but pre Covid. They literally shoved me on the ante natal ward with one of those monitors on the belly and occasionally checked on me when they weren’t busy with other patients. Even pre Covid I seem to recall I was on my own. As to shaving … well I suppose the outcome of the monitoring might be you need to deliver early so it depends on how important being shaven is to you if delivering.

Good luck with everything @flowersforyou.

Personally, I really wouldn't bother shaving. It's not necessary for the delivery, you'll find it difficult to see and regrowth will only ever be annoying.

Your partner likely won’t be allowed in.

I was in for monitoring a few days ago, they put me on a bay on delivery ward (yes had to sit and listen to women giving birth the whole time which was unnerving 😂)

Basically they just put monitors on your belly, I was monitored for an hour - but little girl kept kicking them and ended up losing signal several times, wear something comfy 😁

I’d advise packing an overnight bag in the car just in case, they kept me in (for other reasons) but you never know and trying to get my DH to pack an overnight bag for me over the phone when I couldn’t remember where half my stuff was, was a nightmare 😂

Why would you shave?! What do you think they're going to be doing? Monitoring just means a trace, counting kicks, doing regular blood pressure etc, all depends what reason they've suggested monitoring. Could be 2 hours could be overnight or longer.

Garman · 26/11/2021 18:35

You don't need to shave no matter what happens anyway, if it's an emergency section they'll shave a patch if necessary, which it might not be.

Ahh thank you! I wouldn't want him with me to be honest bless him he would just be bored. I'll pack a back but hopefully I don't get kept in as it's my baby shower in the afternoon and with my cake cravings I will be gutted to miss it!
