Almost 14 weeks and can't feel baby when I lay down

Hi guys. I'm a ftm so no idea what expect. I'm 13+5 and noticed yesterday that I had a definite lump just above my public bone when lying down, but later on, this had gone? I have the tiny beginnings of a bump plus other symptoms but this is freaking me out. Is baby not growing? Surely at this point I should feel where baby is?

I’m 25 weeks and have a a pretty large bump considering how far along I am out unless baby is has like an elbow in my side or something I can’t really feel where their body is unless they are actively moving. I wouldn’t expect you to feel anything really just now - baby is v.small still and surrounded by fluid. Probably at least another 6 weeks at least before you start feeling movement if this is your first baby. So I don’t think you have any need to worry however if you are worried, always call your midwife or triage line. They will always be happy to talk to you about any concerns you have.

I'm 30 weeks and still can sometimes feel where baby is and sometimes can't. at 14 weeks the baby is sooo tiny and has lots of room to hide.

@Missnicolinda96 same here - 14+4 and although my lower stomach is definitely sticking out a bit, I can't feel my uterus at all: just feels normally squishy! I think it's probably fine; am hoping the midwife will be able to feel it next week but assume she knows what's she's looking for better than I do.

between 13-19 weeks I went through this feeling of not feeling pregnant at all. It was like the calm before the storm.

Don't worry- baby is tiiiiny atm

Missnicolinda96 · 26/11/2021 11:41

Just to be clear I'm not talking about movement, I'm talking about not feeling a lump where baby should be. I did yesterday but I think it was just poo haha.

You wouldn't be able to feel anything, surely?

it's the size of a peach, weighs next to nothing (25g) and surrounded by fluid etc

skkyelark · 26/11/2021 13:23

Do you mean feel the firm, round lump of your uterus rather than actually feel baby? I couldn't feel a hard bump at all until almost 16 weeks pregnant with my first (and could wear all my normal clothes, etc.), despite being a healthy weight and not exactly tall. Baby was fine, no concerns about growth, and actually bigger than average when born. Now pregnant with DC2, could feel a bump maybe around 15 weeks this time, baby measured completely fine at my 20 week scan.

If everything else seems okay, no bleeding or cramping or anything like that, I really wouldn't worry about this.

Yes that what I mean! I'm tempted to book another scan before my 16 week gender one to make sure baby is growing but I've already had 5 Confused. And I don't want to give myself false hope incase abnormalities are found at 20wk scan

Similar gestation here. I can feel mine when my bladder is full but not otherwise!

Why have you had 5 scans? Confused
skkyelark · 26/11/2021 21:58

@Pamparam makes a good point that a full or empty bladder will make a big difference at this gestation.

However, I wonder if you've considered speaking to the midwives about anxiety? Five scans by 14 weeks is a lot. Are these mostly private scans for reassurance? Worrying about baby is obviously common and normal, but it's also not uncommon for normal concern to become unhealthy anxiety – if the midwives know, they can help support you.

If they've all been NHS scans due to particularly high risks, then it's hardly surprising that you'd be anxious, but you still might want to let them know how much you're worrying.

@00100001 I'm 13w1d and have had 4 scans - I've had three consecutive miscarriages and was prescribed progesterone until 12w, so had fortnightly scans from 6w. Different people have different levels of monitoring.

itssquidstella · 27/11/2021 08:26

@00100001 I’ve had nine scans and I’m 15 weeks tomorrow. I’ve had three previous miscarriages and was under the care of the recurrent miscarriage clinic until 12 weeks. I’m having a scan next week to break up the wait (and yes, to ease my anxiety) before the 20 week scan.

Different people have different experiences. Your post comes across as very judgmental.

This is absolutely normal @Missnicolinda96. I'm 15+5 and on some days I can feel a lump and others I can't. First timers often take longer to start showing and I would guess that would also mean it takes longer to feel it too. Unless there are any other signs that something is wrong then try to relax. 14 weeks is really early!
