Horrible conversation with recurrent miscarriage nurse

I'm pregnant for the sixth time, after 5 early pregnancy losses. I'm about 6 weeks now which is the furthest I've ever made it. We're cautiously excited. I've been using progesterone suppositories rectally for almost 4 weeks, since we found out we were pregnant.

Over the weekend I had a small bleed so they scanned me at the EPAU on Monday - pregnancy was in the right place and the right size. No heartbeat or fetal pole but as I was expecting to be about 5.5 weeks along I wasn't too worried about that. I'll be rescanned next Wednesday, great.

Overnight I had another small bleed. Bright red but hardly anything on the pad, it's brown now. I was really proud of myself for being calm and rationale. Had a lazy morning (day off), all was well.

The recurrent miscarriage midwife rang to offer me a reassurance scan at 9 weeks - perfect, I'd love that! I told her about my scan, the one booked next week and the small bleeds I'd had. Her tone totally changed and she started saying things like "when you miscarry", "when you have a negative pregnancy test" and "we'll send the pregnancy tissue off to be tested". I asked her whether she thought the pregnancy wasn't viable and she said "no no, it's just that you shouldn't bleed when you're taking progesterone".

I'm left feeling totally deflated and the sense of calm I've worked so hard to maintain is gone. I just want to get to next Wednesday now. Has anyone else had experiences of bleeding in early pregnancy and everything being fine?

I have no experience of this exact scenario @rainbowsandmagpies but I didn't want to read and run. Just wanted to say how awful it is that the midwife spoke to you like that. And sending you all my wishes for a successful pregnancy Thanks
@WeDidntMeanToGoToSea, sorry to have been confusing -

last period was 10/10 so those dates would put me at 7 weeks on Sunday, but I ovulate late in my cycle and have a short luteal phase (hence the progesterone) so when I had my scan on Monday I was expecting to be earlier on than my dates suggested. This was confirmed by the size of the pregnancy and my hcg levels.
Ah - that makes sense. I really hope things kepe going well for you Flowers

*keep FFS!

I didn't want to read and run, prayers and hugs to you.

@rainbowsandmagpies I've never had progesterone but I did have 2 chemical losses (both at 5 weeks). With my current pregnancy (I'm now almost 36 weeks along), I had a light red bleed followed by spotting over 5 days at 6 weeks. I was in upset assuming it was happening for a third time. It turned out everything was fine! You can definitely bleed and it doesn't mean it's over. I'm really surprised the midwife was so negative on the phone to you. Even if she thinks it's likely a loss she should never assume and speak to you as if it is until it's confirmed as it's known that bleeds happen and it doesn't always mean the pregnancy isn't going to progress! Fingers crossed for you.

I bled on progesterone, a LOT. Full on through the trousers and into my shoes needing fluids levels. My little girl is absolutely fine. Totally depends on the cause of bleeding, so she is wrong. Ignore.

PatterPaws · 30/11/2021 22:50

Fingers crossed here for you OP. Smile

I love the buying a new item of clothes every week idea. I hope you have a good pregnancy.

rainbowsandmagpies · 01/12/2021 04:49

Thanks all! I've been feeling a little more positive the last few days because my morning sickness has gotten so bad I've had to ask for antisickness medication Grin scan in the morning so fingers crossed we'll see ONE heartbeat. Just the one please.

I had a miscarriage at 10/11 weeks - horrible experience. Got pregnant a year or so later and at about the same stage had a huge flood of bright red blood (at work). Went home, cried and rested assuming the full miscarriage would follow - it never did. I have a beautiful DD. It may be the same for you - I very much hope so Flowers

Good luck today @rainbowsandmagpies - fwiw I had loads of miscarriages, two children now, they'll come when they're ready 😉

Hey, that's absolute BS of the nurse. I had a light pink bleed at 5 weeks and had it checked out and they said it was implantation bleeding. Had bloods checked later and HCG was tripling! Then had another light brown bleed last Thursday... Had a scan Friday (5 weeks 3-4days) and it showed everything measuring correctly, cervix closed and no bleed from internal.
Had a bleed yesterday afternoon and that blood was pink and red! Not much but scary. Had a scan last night and the embryo had grown and there was a heartbeat.
Bleeds really can just be part of early pregnancy is what I'm learning!
I've had 4 early MCs and never had these intermittent bleeds xxx

Rachae · 01/12/2021 08:50

Oh ps I'm on 2 progestrone pessaries a day, so it's def possible to bleed with those xx

rainbowsandmagpies · 01/12/2021 11:22

We saw a tiny little heartbeat! (Luckily just one) and I'm dated at 6w2 so its possible the bleed last weekend could've just been implantation! Thanks so much for everyone's kind messages :)

Congratulations op!

Rosiiiiie · 01/12/2021 12:44

Yay so glad to see good news!
I’ve had small bleeds whilst on progesterone pessaries AND injections so it does happen. Now 28 weeks so 🤞🏻 it continues to go to plan!

akaisnsouaj · 01/12/2021 12:49

Lovely news OP Grin

PatterPaws · 01/12/2021 12:56

Fantastic!

rainbowsandmagpies · 01/12/2021 13:00

Thanks all! The consultant was really good and positive and they let us take a photo of the screen (last week I wasn't allowed). I have a reassurance scan on the 21st Dec, then my dating scan on Jan 4th and a private one at the end of Jan so plenty of opportunities to see them get bigger over the next few weeks! Thanks all for your reassurance, its really helped! Now I have to go and do wedding admin, getting married on Friday! What a big week Shock
