Time off for morning sickness

I am 6 weeks 3 days pregnant and nausea is hitting me HARD. I've literally been in bed since Friday and even the taste of water is making me feel sick 🤢 I've had tablets from the doctors but they don't seem to have kicked in yet. Anyway I currently work from home but have been too sick to work the past 2 days but I still don't feel well enough to go back. Has anyone had time off with morning (all day) sickness before? I feel like they'll think I'm being over dramatic but I literally can barely sit up without wanting to vomit 🤢

Yes, I had hyperemesis gravidarum and was off work and bed bound for about 14 weeks with first and 21 weeks with the second. It sounds like you could be heading the the direction of having Hg rather than just nausea. Usually with nausea you can still walk around and manage light small amounts of foods. If you are not able to sit up without vomiting then it sounds like you might need more medication as you can get dehydrated quickly. If you aren't able to drink or keep anything down for more than 12 hours then present to the hospital and ask for some iv fluids. It really is truly awful, I hope you feel better x

I had HG too and was also signed off for weeks, literally everything I ate or drank would come straight back up again.

Are you actually being sick? Are you able to try and force yourself to eat in case it helps the nausea at all? It's a catch-22, being hungry makes you feel really sick as does eating.

Good luck

You have my full sympathies. I was very poorly between weeks 4-12 weeks of what turned out to be a twin pregnancy and had to be signed off from work for that time.

Hopefully things will settle for you, take good care of yourself Thanks

I didn’t have HG but told my line manager early on. It meant I could work as much as possible but if I needed a break that was okay too.

Thanks all. I'm not actually being sick that much but the urge is there CONSTANTLY. I feel dizzy and have absolutely no energy. The smell/taste of food makes me gag. I've never experienced this before and I don't want them to think that I'm taking the mick with time off but I literally feel like DEATH. Like a hangover X 100

Yep just self certify as you are too unwell to work for now.

Another one who was signed off between about 6-14 weeks.

IF the medication isn't working, go back to your GP. There are several options they can use.

I had time off for morning sickness. It's debilitating and is yet another case of as it's a 'womans' thing we should just fight on through. No! It's awful, you have my full sympathy. I had two weeks very early on and then had to take more weeks off later.

I suggest if the pills don't work soon then go back to the GP and ask for a different one. I tried three, in the end I was on two at the same time. It didn't take it away but it did ease it slightly.
