You can ask for a certain date but if your body is not ready, induction will not work.
Induction of labour is best not considered until you are at least 10 days over your date if the pregnancy has been uncomplicated.
Even then the body is sometimes not ready. If the cervix is not 'favourable' for induction you will need to be given prostin vaginally in tablet or gel form, which softens the cervix and opens it a little. Sometimes it itself can trigger labour. Often it needs to be repeated and there must be 6 hours before the next dose. If a third dose is needed it is better to wait till the following day.
Once the cervix is 'favourable', the waters are then broken. If the cervix is still pretty closed or no contractions start after that, you then need a hormone drip. That can take hours to get the cervix to dilate.
If none of these things work then this is called a failed induction and the baby needs delivered by caesrean section.
So as you can see, it is hard to actually make sure a baby is born on the date you want.
Can I ask why you are asking bambino1andbigbump?
