Hematoma bleeding, will it ever stop!? 17 weeks pregnant

At 13 weeks I had a heavy red sudden bleed with clots - scan showed baby was fine. Bled for another day or two and since then it's been brown bleeding every day, 4 weeks now! A scan last week showed a 4cm hematoma so at least I know what it is now. But will this bleeding ever stop?? I've read lots of people say their hematomas were gone by the anomaly scan but mines in less than two weeks and I just don't see it going by then. Anyone had a similar thing with prolonged bleeding? Thanks in advance

I had mine from 7-18 weeks

babyboybluex · 20/11/2021 12:19

Following as it was picked up at 13 weeks that I had a small Hematoma. Haven't bled in over a week now but wiping the occasional brown discharge! I've read bleeding can come and go, you can bleed right until you give labour or it just suddenly stops. It's a nightmare!

Sending you a big hug as it's draining ❤️

Yahoodog · 20/11/2021 23:08

Was on and off for me. Never knew when it would happen. Resolved itself by 18 weeks. Hasn’t happened during this pregnancy though

Hfarm1 · 21/11/2021 14:00

Thanks for the replies, it really is draining 😔 it's just been the exact same for 4 weeks, hasn't been getting less like I'd expected. Feel like I can't relax!

@babyboybluex how many weeks are you now? So glad it's eased off for you!

@Hfarm1 I'm 15 weeks tomorrow! This morning I've wiped a fair bit of brown discharge so I don't know what to think! Are you doing ok? x

Hfarm1 · 22/11/2021 13:06

If it's brown then try not to worry! Mines still the same, I've tried to phone and get another scan for this week which the lady who scanned me last week recommended, but I don't think they will. They always stress me out so much on the phone, it's like they don't even try to sound reassuring 😩

My midwife is amazing and is letting me see her twice a week for her to do the Doppler check. It's the only think keeping me sane x

@Hfarm1 I would love another scan as well! We've actually booked a private one for a week on Wednesday... could you go private?

That's lovely that you have a great midwife. I think with me being earlyish (15 weeks today) it's probably not necessary for mine to see me regularly but I may give her a call to see what she thinks!

Is your bleeding red or brown? I've been drinking so much water and orange juice - I read this helps alongside pomegranate juice? Not sure if it's true but I'll try what I can!!

Take it easy lovely x

Hfarm1 · 22/11/2021 14:16

@babyboybluex That's great you have a scan booked, hopefully they can tell you what you need to know to help put your mind at rest.
I have my anomaly scan on the 2nd December, so not too long to wait but in a weird way I want to leave it longer so there's the chance it might have gone or at least gotten smaller.
My bleeding is brown, has been the entire time minus the initial big bleed. I'm trying to keep hydrated, what's annoying is it seems to be us having to search for what can help!? I've read lots of others saying they were told to go on bed rest etc but I don't know about you but I haven't even seen a doc about it!
Hope everything settles down for us both 🤞

@Hfarm1 So we have a scan tomorrow to see how things are and check on baby! This morning I had a whole load of brown when I woke up which has calmed down but the midwife said it's a good sign. It seems to just be old blood sitting overnight - yum Hmm

You are doing all the right things and yep completely agree that we are the ones having to do the research. It's all conflicting as well, some forums say bed rest works wonders then others say there is no evidence on it being effective. I am definitely resting but still doing jobs around the house, cooking etc. We have a 17 month old so it's impossible to not be mobile at times!

How are you today? x

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 23/11/2021 14:17

I had a subchorionic haematoma with my DD. Unfortunately mine didn't resolve, it continued to grow and at 19 weeks it separated my membranes from the placenta and I went into spontaneous labour. My DD was born naturally but passed away shortly after birth as she wasn't far enough along for intervention and wouldn't have survived.

The important thing for haematomas is that they are not near the placenta. I haven't posted this to scaremonger but this is unfortunately a reality of some cases.

I was on bed rest from 8 weeks and had regular scans and regular doppler checks. The doppler was useless tbh Because my Dds health was never in question. Haematomas don't harm the baby, they harm the placenta.

Take each day as it comes and feel free to ask me anything if you're unsure.

Hfarm1 · 23/11/2021 14:47

Well that has scared me senseless. I do understand the risks though and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Mine is near to my cervix which I've been told is maybe why it's causing continuous bleeding, albeit old brown blood. At 13 weeks mine was 4cm and it was still 4cm at 17 weeks.

May I ask if you had a lot of bleeding? And what size yours was and at what weeks?

@babyboybluex I have a 14 month old so I feel you with that! He's not walking yet so I don't really have a choice but to lift him up a lot 😩

About a week ago I was having little rushes of brown when I got up in the morning too. They've stopped now so I'm hoping that means it's slowed a bit. Surely the more that comes out the smaller it's getting?! Especially since it appears to be old blood in both our cases

@HopelesslyHopeful87 Oh that is awful and so sad. I am very sorry to read that! It has given me a scare... I would be keen to know the same as @Hfarm1 Flowers

@Hfarm1 Oh you poor thing! That is really tough and not easy. I know! You would think so... I honestly have everything crossed for us as I can't bear going on much longer with it Sad I don't know what to expect going into tomorrows scan but I'm just excited to see baby again. Have you thought more about booking a scan or just going to wait? Big hugs x

Hfarm1 · 24/11/2021 10:30

@babyboybluex good luck for your scan today! Everything crossed for you that your hematoma is resolving or has gone 💐

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 24/11/2021 11:08

Yes I had a lot of bleeds. Lots of bright red gushes that would then resolve to brown for a few weeks then another red gush and the cycle continued.

My haematoma was also near my cervix. It started at 4cm and grew to 10cm. As it grew it extended up the uterine wall and into the placenta.

My intention wasn't to scare you as such but to make you aware that this isn't just a haematoma like they have you believe. Every single hcp I saw, every single sonographer I saw told me it would go away on its own and not to worry. Baby was healthy so not to worry. Haematoma are harmless so not to worry. But they were all wrong.

babyboybluex · 24/11/2021 11:37

@Hfarm1 Thank you so much lovely! I'll keep you posted Flowers

babyboybluex · 24/11/2021 15:32

Scan went well! Baby is active and happy - saw the hands and feet 🥺 Measuring 4 days ahead so growth is no issue. The Sonographer said my Hematoma is no longer as big and it’s turning grey meaning there is no active blood present (resolving Hematoma)! It’s a relief and I would pay all the money in the world for that ❤️

Hfarm1 · 24/11/2021 16:42

@babyboybluex I'm so so happy for you! What wonderful news, thank you for updating 🥰
Keep taking it easy, hopefully you will have an uneventful rest of your pregnancy 💐

babyboybluex · 25/11/2021 09:54

@Hfarm1 Thank you so much! Definitely taking it easy and praying it completely goes soon. I would highly recommend a private scan if you are feeling uneasy! The Sonographer was so kind and showed me the Hematoma in detail whereas the NHS one didn't even let me see it!

Big hugs Flowers

mumtotwox · 09/07/2023 17:28

@Hfarm1 How did things go for you? I delivered my boy at 38+2 weeks weighing 8lb 13oz. He's now 14 months and we're expecting again! Hope you're getting on well x

Hfarm1 · 09/07/2023 20:26

@mumtotwox I too delivered at 38+2! A textbook planned home birth and a 6lb 4oz little boy, a perfect ending to a very stressful pregnancy. He’s 14 months also.
I’m so happy you are both doing well! And congratulations 😍 Hopefully a less stressful pregnancy than your last!? X
