Has anyone else suffered with SPD in pregnancy?
This is my 3rd pregnancy and I had it with my 1st and 2nd but not as bad as this time round, I'm 26 weeks on Monday and I honestly have never been in so much pain in my life, I can hardly walk, I can't take my toddlers upstairs and just really struggle doing day to day activities, just lifting my legs to get dressed is absolute agony I've been in tears all morning and I do have a relatively high pain tolerance
I remember getting a belt last time but it really didn't do much to help
Has anyone got any tips on how to relieve the pain, I've taken paracetamol this morning and don't really have the option to rest (toddlers causing chaos)

Hi, I had spd with my second, I fell pregnant again when she was 8 weeks and the spd during my third pregnancy was excruciating. Like you I had a baby to look after so could not rest. I was offered a wheelchair but with a 6 month old that wasn't practical. I had everything set up downstairs so I didn't have to go up and down all day. Travel cot etc. My midwife agreed to induce early as I was in so much pain.

Yeah, it’s horrendous I sympathise. I’m currently pregnant with my second and dreading getting it again with a toddler this time..
There’s not a lot you can do unfortunately. I will invest in a belt this time if it’s bad. Maybe look into physio? But I think it’s just something that is there until baby’s out.
Maybe just set yourself up best you can downstairs for the day to try limit your movements as much as you can?
Can you get anyone to come
Help you out a bit during the day?

2nd pregnancy and it's just dreadful this time round. I can barely walk and can't believe I still have 11 weeks left of this 😩. Being at work still doesn't help and my job is quite physical. I had a physio appointment on Thursday and she said to be to be quite honest it won't get any better till she's here and all I can do is make sure I'm not squatting, lifting, sitting on the floor, hoovering all the usual things. Gave me a few exercises to do and told me to get a ball to move my pelvis around but that's it really. I feel your pain x

I had it from 32 weeks, was on crutches from 34. The day I had my DD1, it went away... just like that, really weird.

Sparkles512 · 21/11/2021 09:16

Yes I have had it from 24 weeks.
The physio put me on crutches at 30 weeks its horrible I can barely walk now I'm 37 weeks.
I find swimming helps but then I get braxton hicks in the evenings after. I also use my birthing ball rather than sitting on the sofa.

I've also been told if I breastfeed then the pain will probably continue? 😭

Hope you can find some relief 🤞

I had it, and it was noisy as well as painful. Getting out of bed resulted in a loud cracking noise.
I was referred to occupational health at hospital and was given a large elastic/Velcro appliance to wrap around my pelvis to hold it all in place. The relief!! No more pain!

AndStand · 21/11/2021 09:34

@Sparkles512 I breastfed both of my babies after SPD and didn't have pain. Giving birth sorted the pain, it went away straight away.

Why is everyone not being directed to the pelvic partnership website?!??

There is a lot you can do!! Mostly, see an osteopath, chiropractor or physio who is trained in treating pregnancy and who practices manual manipulation!!!! ASAP!! Any money spent is more than worth it.

I see my midwife in 2 weeks time so I'm going to mention it to her and see if they can offer any help, it's no better today either, it seems to be getting worse by the hour!
Yeah it went more or less after birth last time but it's the getting to that point I'm struggling with... I've got 14 weeks left and I know it's just going to get worse and more debilitating
Taking my oldest to nursery is a killer!
I feel like I'm letting my two boys down massively at the moment because they just want to play and usually I'd be running around with them but I have to watch from the sideline

This! Also doing regular daily clam exercises to help strengthen the muscles around and swimming (no breaststroke legs!).

Try and strengthen as much as possible the belts are useful but you can become over reliant and the muscles are still weak.

I also used a slightly warmed wheaty bag under my hip at bedtime to help me sleep

@physicskate if I had the spare money I would do in a heartbeat but with Christmas round the corner it's a bit tight!
And also the boys birthdays are Christmas Day and 23rd December so I have to sort that aswell so I'm hoping I can just plough through it and see where I'm at after Christmas is over

@feb2022 credit card?

I don't mean that to sound flippant either, I promise. The earlier you treat it, the easier it is to treat.

I started with it at 13/14 weeks on pregnancy number 1. 8 weeks on pregnancy 2. But managed to stay mobile and keep off crutches second time around because I'd discovered a brilliant osteo who really helped me after my first birth. Best money I've ever spent!!! Was less than £50 a session and I saw her every 3-ish weeks during pregnancy 2.
