First 48 Hours at Home

It’s been over 10 years since I last had a baby so don’t 100% recall the first 48 hours at home after giving birth.

I know I was up and about and went out clothes shopping and going to the in laws.

What did you do? Did you have guests? Go out? How quickly did you get back to normal ?

After the placenta bit, got up off the floor and went to use the loo, washed my legs, face and hands. Cleared up the birth mess, dressed the baby, saw off the midwives, had a cup of tea and a paracetamol. Dog needed a spin round the block so saw our next door neighbour who did this for us so neighbour met baby. Relatives came round to meet the baby and we had a takeaway then a few more relatives after that. Watched some tv and went to bed, set the alarm for the morning to expect the midwife visit. Baby wasn’t feeding and so it was a weird night. Got up at 8am and dressed for the midwife who never showed up (said would come in the morning) after midday we went out to the shops, took the dog out and to see another family member. Baby still wasn’t feeding but kept giving them opportunities to do so. Rang MW to see about the visit and about the feeding but kept going to voicemail.
Next morning we got a call from GP who was coming to do the new baby check, they were definite that they were coming that day because it had to be done within 48 hours of birth. Stayed in for them, they were not happy with dc not breastfeeding and told us to formula feed so we had to go out to the emergency chemist to buy bottles and milk.
(We did eventually get a mw visit on day eight)

DC two, we got in bed after the birth and rang the relatives, the older DC got to tell the baby news and dh cooked fajitas. Next morning managed to make breakfast feeding new baby, took new baby on school run in carrier and they were introduced to the whole school practically. No contact from mws but had feeding support this time so that was better. After school we had lots of visitors from family and the next day friends. This time saw a midwife on day three!

Dc three, was Christmas so baby was born under the Christmas tree! Baby was BBa so we had a quick check over, shower then we went to bed. No sharing news till the morning because of the hour, but first day was just getting used to the baby as the two bigger dc had many questions! We went for a quick visit to some local friends. Day after was Christmas Eve so all the usual festivities plus a massive influx of relatives and the next day I cooked Christmas dinner with a little help from marks and Spencer’s, and had a little tipple for the new baby. MWs visited on day five that time.

Really, @PiesNotGuys? Hmm

Stayed in hospital for 3 days as had c sec.
Went home in evening so put baby to bed and went to sleep. Woke every 3 hours to feed and then basically stayed in bed the next day as was in pain.
Did have some relatives over for a couple of hours. Repeated the 3 hourly feed and sleep for the rest of the time.
Sound like a lightweight compared to the others but I cant say I wanted to take baby out at all the first week. I was anxious and overly tired and in pain and all over the place.

Most recent baby (also after a long gap), born at home so took ages getting all the paperwork done. When the midwife left our parents came round to meet their new GC. DP fetched older DC from school, they were introduced to baby. DP entertained older DC, I snuggled baby, then all went to bed early, as the night before was a bit disturbed.
Day 2 got older DC ready for school, went back to bed with baby. Went out to vote. I think my mum brought round some food. Can't remember how older DC got home from school, but someone must have fetched them. Another early night!

It's all a bit of a blur, but mainly sitting on the sofa and bfing in between that lot.

I keep thinking I’m 10 years older now so don’t think I’ll bounce back into normal life quite so quick this time!

I was still in hospital following a C-section and baby needed IV antibiotics. Felt like I had been run over by a car for several days. But of a blur of feeding, sleeping, lots of not sleeping and very kind midwives.

I had a 23 year age gap between my dd's I knew nothing.😜😜

I got home after 6 hrs of giving birth( 40 mins labour).

We went straight to the cemetery to dd1's grave, she had died 2 months before dd2 was born.
Got home to my whole family 5 siblings, partners, kids and inlaws.
Handed dd over and got comfy on the sofa. Stayed there all day we ordered a takeaway for everyone. When they all left dh and I sat in silence looking at dd (she was a surprise arrival).
Went to bed didn't sleep much.
Up the next morning and stayed in my jammies midwife came. Friends and neighbours came over to meet her. Probably ordered takeaway again and for the next 6 weeks😂😂
We talked about names. DH said he liked xxxxx I agreed and she was called xxxxx. Don't really remember much else. It was 6 years ago next month🙈
