Nausea what worked for you

I am 5w5d today and over the last couple of days the relentless nausea has kicked in, it is 24/7 with barely any let up through the day. My biggest concern is that it is affecting my job, I work in distribution and we have a pick rate of above 75% and im barely in the low 60's because of how im feeling. I informed my supervisor yesterday on how im feeling and he was lovely about it, we agreed I'd try another couple of hours and if no better then to get myself off home. Obviously it didn't get better as the night wore on it got worse so off home I went with the advice to not come in today if I'm still feeling the same (I don't think my supervisor understood the 24/7 every day thing, obviously I'm still going to be feeling the same today lol) but I can't keep taking time off work, I know they are understanding of it but it's more financial reasons I can't keep doing it. So please tell me what worked for you.

FYI we are allowed to eat and drink on the job so any certain foods, drinks, snacks etc im all ears. I've tried mints to no avail.

I'm not sure how this would work in the world place but sucking on an ice cube worked for me. I used to be a dancer and in competitions if I ever felt so my hats what our dance teacher would give to us, and I used it throughout my pregnancy too

mummyh2016 · 14/11/2021 07:35

Anti sickness tablets on prescription was the only thing that worked for me in my first pregnancy.

Noorandapples · 14/11/2021 07:37

Before i could get my hands on ondansetron I got slight relief from warm water with apple cider vinegar and honey, tastes horrible but somehow worked for an hour or so

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/11/2021 07:39

Medication.

But in terms of food, salt and vinegar crisps, granny smith apples, and ice cold water (or squash, as I went off water as well).

Eating tiny amounts all the time. I used to have salty crackers/ready salted crisps by my bed and every time I woke in the night I'd have a bite. Even if it was just one crisp/one bite of a cracker that I could manage. I'd do the same every 10 mins or so during the day. But really it was the night time that I think helped, because it kept me from feeling SO sick in the morning (I used to vomit on waking, bowl by the bed as couldn't make it to the loo) and kind of started me off right for the day.
In the end my doctor prescribed me medicine (I think called stemetil?) but I never took it, the nighttime eating kept me ok.
Good luck. All day sickness is tough.

A vote for ginger nut biscuits from me. I also found really fresh cold air helped as well, avoid the smokers corner though!

I hope this improves for you OP - currently 12w and this feeling is going down a lot. Flowers

Eating helped me, it sounds ridiculous as it's the last thing you want to do. I used to eat dry crackers or even just boiled sweets. Had something on hand all the time. Distraction helped too, at work I would get engrossed in something and forget about it for a bit.
Obviously this doesn't work for severe cases.

newtolineofduty · 14/11/2021 07:43

I've recently discovered those anti sickness wrist bands and they've REALLY Helped! X

Heruka · 14/11/2021 07:50

I also ate constantly to keep nausea at bay, also had crackers etc by the bed and didn’t need to eat during night like pp but ate something in bed before even getting up. Was off loads of foods at that time but mainly ate bread, carbs, salty things. I’ve also heard good things about those nausea bands.

Coolcoolcool · 14/11/2021 07:52

Try omeprazole. You can get it over the counter. For me my nausea was related to heartburn (even though in early pregnancy the nausea was much more strong than the heartburn). It worked better for me than rhe cyclazine I was prescribed.

LunaLoveFood · 14/11/2021 07:57

Travel sickness band's on my wrist really helped (I don't know if it was all in my head or if they actually did something but I stopped feeling sick!)

Thatsplentyjack · 14/11/2021 07:59

Phenergan. I got mine prescribed by the doctor, which obviously while pregnant you should do, but you can actually get it online.

GinnyBee · 14/11/2021 09:03

What helps me is eating little bits often, snacking through the day and tiny meals. And nothing heavy or stodgy, only fresh flavours. Apples are a lifesaver, also anything citrusy, mediterranean flavours are a hit too when it comes to trying to eat a proper meal instead of just a snack (tomatoes, olives, feta...). I also have a tin of lemon drops on my desk and those are great!

ImStayingInside · 14/11/2021 11:21

Chewing gum and Lucozade Sport drinks saved my life in the early sicky feeling days.

Hadenough21 · 14/11/2021 15:41

Travel sickness bands, ice cold water, eating something every hour or so like crisps or crackers etc. I’m trying a vitamin B6 supplement at the moment as some people say that can really reduce nausea. I’m on day 4 and feel a lot less nauseas today than I have for the past 3 weeks so maybe it’s doing something… I’m taking 50mg a day (from Holland & Barrett)

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/11/2021 16:09

Second sucking ice cubes. They had to be small ones for me. Also sucking crystallised ginger helped.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 14/11/2021 16:18

Eating little and often, and eating mint imperials helped a bit. Also caffeine-free diet coke (though I'm sure a sugary one would help too).

Smurf123 · 14/11/2021 17:41

Full sugar coke with ice
Salty crackers like ritz or tuc crackers
Omeprezole also helped me

Fleur405 · 14/11/2021 17:48

Regular snacks - even something like some nuts/dried fruit, which you could have in your pocket. Oatcakes - you can get flavoured ones and little packets of oatcake bites. Also you can get ginger chewy sweets in Holland and Barratt which I found quite helpful. The nausea usually gets better by 12 weeks so it won’t last forever.

Derbee · 14/11/2021 18:54

CONSTANT eating. And I mean constant. Popcorn and Cheerios in a little snack bag.

InvisibleDragon · 14/11/2021 18:56

Another vote for tiny night time snacks. I put an oatcake on a plate by my bed and break off little pieces if I wake up at night. During the day I have a little pack of the Scottish Nairn ones in my bag to nibble throughout the morning.

I think eating smaller meals in the evening also helps. But I really hate feeling like I'm constantly chewing on cardboard and never able to properly enjoy food that I like.
