Hi all,
I’m 36+5 weeks pregnant with my first baby. It’s an IVF pregnancy following years of infertility so I’m probably more worried than other FTMs!
My background, I’m 34, history of endometriosis (hence need for ivf in the end) and BMI was 23/24 before pregnancy.
I’ve known I had a low lying placenta since my 20 week scan, had a massive bleed at 26 weeks where I had a 3 night stay in hospital. Placenta was completely covering at that point. Baby was measuring along 10th percentile then.
I’ve had regular scans since, as I also have GD to add to my worries, and baby has been consistently measuring between 5-10% percentile. The placenta (yesterday at 36+4) is now 14mm away from the internal OS so consultant has decided it’s not safe for vaginal delivery and it’s unlikely to move now. So I’m being booked in for a ELCS at 38/39 weeks.
I think I just need a hand hold! Is this the right thing to do? I asked about having another scan before the CS to see if the placenta has moved again but they refused that. I’m probably more worried about baby’s small size, so think that’s also why consultants want to get her out sooner rather than later. The Doppler did show cord flow was good so I don’t know if it’s my shitty placenta that’s causing these issues or something else - maybe as it’s an IVF pregnancy, which I’ve heard can lead to smaller babies. It could also be genetics, I’m 5ft2 and size 10 pre pregnancy so never thought I’d have a big baby!
Has anyone been in a similar position? Should I be asking my consultant any questions I may not have thought of? I really didn’t want an ELCS but will do what’s best of course.
