Out of interest has anyone had problmes with their pets either in pregnancy or once baby had arrived?

Only ask as i'm now 20 weeks and have two cats and since becoming pregnant they have behaved differently, one avoids me like the plague and the other has grown more clingy, although a bit nippy exspecially when sat on my lap. The other day i was say crossed legged on the couch and he came and sat between my legs and he bit me hard twice on the inside of my leg. I hope this isn't a sign of problems to come!!!!!!

My cat was quite clingy when I was pregnant, although she kindly avoided trying to sit on my bump while I was lying down! Maybe they can sense somethings going on!

Since DS was born we've not been able to give her quite a much attention as we used to and it has made her much braver around strangers - she'll now happily sit on anyone's lap, whereas before she would have hid behind the sofa when people came round (she is obviously craving attention!)

I've got three cats and I can't say we've had any problems with any of them once the baby arrived. One of them loves the baby, can't keep away from her and takes all sort of abuse from her without a murmur. One ignores her altogether. One was ignoring her but now she's started weaning has taken to sitting underneath her highchair in the hopes of catching scraps.

I really wouldn't worry about how their behaving at the moment. Just keep a watch on how they react to the baby once he or she arrives. IME they'll avoid the baby if they take a dislike. Siblings seem to be far more of a danger .

Animals definately sense somethings up when you're pg.

I have an older cat and a young dog and a 6 month old DD.....its like having 2 other kids in the house tbh....they just want attention as as long as they get some, its fine. The cat is not interested in DD and avoids her although he does like sleeping in an empty cot (cat nets are a waste of time....mine just sat on it).....dog just loves DD and won't leave her alone....very protective as well....sits by her chair....when she's on the floor playing with toys, he goes and gets his and sits next to her....

Food and cuddles are all a cat is interested in (in that order in this house) and as long as they get them, they'll be fine

Good luck

Yes, my dog is extra clingy and overprotective when we are out and about, growling at any strange men that come near me (not many do, thank goodness). He was like this last time too.

He was fine when ds was born, but finds him annoying now that he moves around and chases him.

I haven't noticed a real difference in my cat since I have been pregnant but I do know that she will pack her bags when the baby arrives - she hates kids!

My cat bites me more and loves my dh more than me now- since getting pregnant that is.. he has always had freedom round the house but now the nursery has been done and kitted out with the moses basket cotbed- we have started locking the door, but have found him curled up in the rocking moses basket when we have left the door ajar!

Both of my dogs are quite protective of DD (23 days old) one is protective from afar, barking at people walking past the house or when we are out. The other one follows us around when we have DD in our arms, and if anyone other than DH and I hold DD the dog will sit and watch them like a hawk.

I've got 2 cats - one is no different but the other likes sleeping in the bed with me now against my tummy purring away - which makes the baby kick - I am hoping this is cos the baby likes it!
