First trimester - haven't put on any weight

Should I worry? Am nearly 11 weeks and the websites I am looking at seem to think I should have put on at least some weight. One website says 8 pounds

I was quite sick for a couple of weeks and lost a few pounds. I've put that weight back on. I feel thicker round the middle and I think I've been eating quite a lot, but no weight gain. Is this normal? Ok?

its fine. you will find that your body will do what it needs to and the baby will absolutely take what it needs to. I put on a stone in the first trimester but then hardly any for the rest of the pregnancy compared to others. My friends put on barely anything for the first 4 months - but then gained lots towards the end. we are all different and trust me. baby will take what it needs.

I was exactly the same - lost weight through sickness whilst putting on 'baby' so stayed the same...until about 4 months I think

oh thanks dal

I haven't seen a midwife or had a scan or anything and when I think about things like this it makes me wonder if I have just imagined the whole thing

Don't worry. When I was pg first time round I weighed the same at 6 months as I did before I was pregnant. This time I also lost alot of weight in the first few weeks - but I've got a normal size bump at 18 weeks. If you're eating normally, the baby will get what it needs.

F&Z - sounds fine to me. But if you are worried, would a trip to the midwife reassure you?

franke · 13/12/2007 08:43

Oh yes - until I heard the baby's heartbeat a couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd imagined the whole thing too

when you get to the end of the pregnancy and have your baby - you'll realise that a lot of the information out there (whilst useful) can sometimes just cause you to worry excessively. A lot of the stuff out there is guideline info...as long as you listen to your body, give it what it needs - you and your bub will be fine. enjoy the mince pies at xmas and enjoy your pregnancy.

Thanks all - have booked private scan for Sunday so will not have too much longer to fret

I don't know who my midwife is or anything - no-one has been in touch

I just remember putting on a ton of weight at the beginning last time

this time is obviously different

every pregnancy is different.

I didn't lose my pregnancy weight from dd1 until I got pregnant with dd2 and lost weight through morning sickness!

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 13/12/2007 08:52

also, remember that you are running around after a little boy this time, and he will help you burn off energy!

FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2007 08:56

yes

plus possibly have healthier diet this time round so maybe need to cram less food in?

I lost half a stone in the first trimester each time due to being sick or simply not being able to eat the usual huge quantities of food I pack away. There's plenty of time to catch up in the next two trimesters!

kelbel · 13/12/2007 09:00

hi don't worry, i was a stone and half lighter when 16 weeks pregnant with this LO, it's my first so like you i was worried, but i'd had extreme hyperemesis and looked horrendous. du in 2 days now and I'm v healthy, not huge, but got the neatest ump - enjoy it! x

Kif · 13/12/2007 09:09

Oh, I just got weighed for my booking in appt (I'm 14 weeks) and I've apparently lost 7kg since conceiving.

I think I lost more with Dd.

Don't eat buns - just listen to your body.

After the sickness with Dd I went through an entertaining phase at 4.5 months that i found I was hungry for a full roast lunch with pudding at 11.30 am, then again at 2.30 pm (normal breakfast and dinner). God bless the office canteen!
