72 hour monitoring after birth - What essentials will I need in my hospital bag?

Due to high risk, midwife has said me and baby will need to stay in hospital for 72 hours of monitoring. I am absolutely clueless as to what to bring in to hospital with me as it's been a few years, and last time I was in and out in less than 24 hours.

So far on the list I have, for me

  • Toiletries (including maternity and breast pads)
  • 3 (or 4) fresh Pj's, knickers, socks
  • Dressing gown and slippers(although postnatal is bloody warm)
  • My own towel for drying (NHS ones barely cover my arse)
  • Comfortable clothes to go home in (leggings and a hoodie, probably the clothes I will wear in)

Baby (this is where I need the most help. How many of each??)

  • Baby gros, sleep suits, blankets, hats and mitts
  • Muslin cloths and bibs
  • Nappies and wipes
  • Bottles and milk (just in case I can't BF) - how will I sterilise these if I need to use them?

Anything else? I will have my phone and a laptop to keep me sane, I am looking for practical things I will need rather than food/entertainment etc.

Soft toilet roll

Hey I had a long hospital stay after my LO's birth. The ward will have facilities for steralising bottles if you do need them. Do you have a DH/DP who can wash bits and bring them back up? I think for baby you would be looking at a fair few outfits otherwise!
Id pack flip flops for the shower, soft loo roll and fluffy bedsocks. I wouldnt worry about packing a blanket except for going home as the hospital will provide these!

Also didnt help with baby quantities - I would pack 12 complete outfits (vest/ gro) and back a few hats and mittens if not inbuilt.
One whole pack of nappies and if you can, cotton wool instead of wipes.
I'd pack a blanket for taking baby home! If you can afford pre madr bottles I'd get them, if not, 3 bottles and a tin of formula or plenty of pre made as may be easier
Muslins I'd pack 8

Long phone charger cable and portable recharger - and download your music, kindle books, TV progs etc in case signal is shit. (You almost certainly won't be able to stream).
Headphones
Ear plugs
Eye mask
Your own pillow
Nice shower gel
Separate cloth bag or binbag for separating dirty clothes from clean
Muslin cloths
Dummies
A feeding pillow if you have/want one.

No need to bring a blanket for baby - get partner to bring it in the car seat when they pick you up.

If you plan on breastfeeding they normally provide formula if needed.

It might help to make up a few parcels at home of baby clothes in Newborn, 0-1 month and 0-3 months. Then bring just 1-2 of each of those sizes. When they are born and you know what size you need ask partner to drop off the parcel (with 6-10 outfits) at reception.

You can get one use bottles of formula with pre steralised teats. My midwife said my trust aren't providing them in hospital so to pack my own in case.

Definitely bring new clothes to go home in (although if you can have visitors they could bring them in) my waters went all over my clothes I arrived in.

I'd also recommend a flannel or 2 for yourself, I had to have stitches and it helped to hold something down there when I went to the loo for the first day after having the baby.
