Hi all, not posted on here for ages.
Recently found out I am pregnant with my fourth child and I was too late for the first trimester screening. I went along for a scan and I was 16 weeks so I just had the second trimester bloods. Got a phone call yesterday saying that the tests say I have a 1 in 5 chance of Down’s syndrome, was not expecting that, even though I just turned 40. My other three kids were all low risk.
I am having an amniocentesis on Tuesday and I will know the results on Thursday.
Does anyone have/had any similar stories/outcomes? I have the letter confirming my risk level - it actually says >1 in 5 but the fetal medicine team told me the highest chance is 1/2. None of the figures mean anything to me, I've googled. I am scared Sad

Everyone is so kind on here I feel quite overwhelmed. To be honest, I really had come to terms that the baby would have Down’s syndrome so I feel like a chapter of my life has been completely re-written. I am still nervous as hell about having baby number 4, as I’m by myself this time; like I said before my three children are with my ex husband, and he is a very hands on supportive dad, we were a team when it came to parenting. I’ve not done it alone before. We co parent though so I am not by myself with my three children, they see loads of their dad. He doesn’t know I am pregnant yet.
This baby, I am not with the father, the relationship is over. He already has four kids and I am assuming he won’t want to be involved with this one.
Anyway I am rambling. Thank you all for your kind and empathetic responses xx Flowers

@Jomummy1013 from what you e said I’m sure he’ll still want to support, it is his child. It may just take a while to get over the shock. If he’s hands on with the other 4 I can’t see him rejecting this one, which is still a gift even though you’re not together anymore. Anyway, you’ve got this!!! There’s lots of support out there and if you struggle you might be able to request additional health visits
