Pityriasis Rosea in pregnancy - help!

I posted yesterday about a rash I have over my body and it’s highly likely that it’s Pityriasis Rosea. I have another doctors appointment booked for Monday as I was last at the doctors over a week ago with one patch which I was told was ringworm. I know believe it was probably my herald patch as it was there around 2/3 weeks then I woke up one morning covered in more patches which has gotten worse this week. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant. I would have been around 22/23 weeks pregnant when the herald patch first showed up. Googling Pityriasis Rosea in pregnancy is rather terrifying. Please is there anyone out there who has had this while pregnant and gone on to have a complication free pregnancy and a healthy baby/child. I’m so annoyed with myself as it’s highly likely a reaction to my Covid jab which I researched & researched before having and never knew this information before. I know feel like it’s my fault I have this and I have potentially harmed my healthy baby

You'll be absolutely fine! Don't worry about it, it will go away in a few weeks. That small Italian study you've found is meaningless and not very well conducted. I had it too while pregnant and it was due to stress most likely. It won't be your fault or have any connection to the jab. A lot of women get it, it's ugly and annoying but harmless, especially in 2nd trimester. Speak to your midwife for reassurance, she will know of cases. Chin up, it's not your fault- our immune systems are a bit fragile when pregnant but just relax. P.s. nothing I tried helped for the itching, just time.

I had this when I was pregnant with my first (I can't remember how many weeks pregnant I was) and went on to have a very healthy and happy baby. Definitely speak to your GP about it rather than googling. I had mine way before COVID and the jab may not have had anything to do with it so don't be annoyed with yourself at all for making a decision to try and protect you and your baby from COVID. Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy and hope it all clears up soon.

Thank you both, your replies have actually brought tears to my eyes. It’s an awful feeling to think that you may have done something unintentionally to harm your baby, as all we want to do is keep them safe. I am so relieved to hear that you both were ok and so were your baby’s

Glad we could cheer you up! All the best 😀 be patient, it can stick around for a bit, mine got much worse before it got better. Speak to gp or midwife if you feel like you're panicking, I was so worried x

Hello, sorry to jump on!
Just wondering more about this. I've just found out I'm pregnant (4w5d) and I have pityriasis rosea and now I can't stop thinking the same after the search too!
I'm petrified that this pregnancy won't last 😭

Firstly, sorry you’re going through this. I had this with my DD. I think it started in the early second trimester. Lasted about 6-8 weeks. It was incredibly itchy. I thought it was chickenpox until dr diagnosed me. It was just annoying as I couldn’t take anything but a 2% hydracortizone cream. Basically nothing. Things that made a huge difference were bathing head to toe in head and shoulders shampoo. I used it as body wash and shampoo. Poured warm (not hot) baths and used this as bubble bath too. It definitely helped a hot. The other thing was trying to get sun exposure. I live somewhere sunny so it was possible for me. But between the two the spots died down fast. I had one flare up a year later when not pregnant, took a steroid pack orally for a week and it was gone the next week. Damn pregnancy and restricted medication. Dont read the European study. There’s not enough data on this. My baby was absolutely fine. She’s now 2 and it’s had no impact. If I got it again I’d be frustrated but not worried. Any questions just shout x

@NTLW94 I also had PR when I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks, it's the second time I've had it. It's actually took a little longer to clear up as pregnancy can cause skin hyperpigmentation (according to the dermatologist) but it's gone now (I'm 9 weeks today) no problems caused as far as I know. I had a scan last week for other reasons and baby was absolutely fine :)

NTLW94 · 25/03/2022 09:28

That's really reassuring! Thank you. Did midwives have anything to say on it? My doctor is being useless now I'm pregnant and I've tried to contact a midwife but had no look and don't want to turn it into an emergency when others need it more. Just feel a bit alone with it all. This is my second baby so we are trying to make it a surprise, so only got my partner really.

TotalRhubarb · 25/03/2022 09:31

I had it too, from about 9 weeks, iirc. It lasted pretty much the whole pregnancy and was as annoying as hell, but DD was fine, happy and healthy.

Clch · 25/03/2022 10:04

@NTLW94 I haven't had my booking appointment yet, I went to my dr and she referred me to a dermatologist but the general gist was that they can't treat it and it's got to run it's course. They didn't seem bothered at all about me being pregnant. But as I've read on here and from personal experience it seems to just go and not cause any issues :)

NTLW94 · 25/03/2022 10:11

Thank you ☺️. I'll still mention it when they get back to me. Just over panicked I think but trying to remain calm too! I hope I get the same reaction too. Thank you for replying x

I have this but luckily only get the herald patches and no other rashes. My son has it too but has the full version unfortunately. I haven't heard anything about it affecting pregnant women in a bad way.

Coffeeloverlondon12 · 25/03/2022 13:10

I had it and it came back 3 times over the space of 1 year. My immune system is weird I’ve had chicken pox 3 times when I was little too. Pharmacy told me it was ringworm but it was not. I’ve heard that washing your body with head and shoulders helps it to clear quicker. Mine did go eventually but yes it began with one big patch on my tummy or back can’t quite remember and then the others followed. The herald patch was always the biggest for me. It will go in a few weeks probably and it is just the immune system reacting for some reason. But you can ask the GP online (if you have econsult) and they can answer any questions x
