Rash in pregnancy

Has anyone had a rash like this when pregnant? It appeared last Tuesday. I had been to the doctors the day before with a small red patch on my breast which I was told was a fungal infection and was prescribed daktarin. The next day I woke up with this rash under my boobs, and around my armpits. I went back to the doctor who said it was a different type of rash to the fungal one. She thought it was a reaction to my Covid jab that I had 3 days before. Anyway a week on and it’s got worse. It’s now all over both boobs, under them, at the top of my bump (25 weeks), my sides, armpits, top of my thighs & in my groin. It’s also starting to spread onto my arms now and my lower back. It hasn’t itched at all the whole time I have had it but I’ve started to feel itchy this evening. Although that could be because I’m thinking about that I’m now feeling itchy. Midwife today said to see the doctor again so I’m booked in for Monday. Could be bloody covered in it by then.

I would call triage or labour ward this evening. Someone else posted something on this a while back and it could be something to do with your liver or kidney function or something and needs to be checked asap.

Mischance · 03/11/2021 19:04

My DD had this - it related to pre-eclampsia and faulty liver function. You do need to speak to someone who will take it seriously. Did your GP take your blood pressure? Or do a blood test?

The medics ignored this with my DD and it got far worse than it need have done - the midwife took her BP and when she saw the result she said the machine must be faulty! Grrr.

I am not sufficiently medically knowledgeable to help further - but I do know that the rash was ignored in my DD and it was not a good thing. So my advice would be to get further advice.

I am sure someone will be along in a mo who has more knowledge.

It’s worth getting checked out for reasons above but my suspicion is PUPPP. I had this in my first pregnancy and it spread everywhere except my face, and around the belly button. If it’s not around your belly button then it could be PUPPP. PUPPP is annoying but completely non-harmful.

tuxedocat · 03/11/2021 19:11

It likely isn’t liver related as Cholestasis presents without a rash but def get checked on the off chance.

DoG87 · 03/11/2021 19:30

The midwife today said she didn’t think it was related to that liver thing as you get itchy hands & feet?

Can you call your out of hours midwife line?

Finzi · 03/11/2021 19:34

Yes it looks like it might be PUPPP. It’s usually very itchy, and tends to be on your bump, lower arms and thighs. It’s a form of urticaria.

Finzi · 03/11/2021 19:37

Yes, cholestasis doesn’t have a rash and you get itchy on your palms and the soles of your feet.

RLou3 · 03/11/2021 20:16

Looks like - Pityriasis rosea to me!! I had this before - it's a harmless rash that usually starts with an oval-shaped patch of scaly skin followed by a widespread rash.... took about 3 or 4 weeks to clear! Xx

DoG87 · 03/11/2021 20:20

I’ve just noticed that some of the spots/marks are going scaly

I had a weird rash on bump and legs during second pregnancy, thought it was pupp but it cleared up then came back and then went again at about 32 weeks. It was really itchy. I was told to take some antihistamines. Labour ward were the most helpful one to contact

CurryandSnuggle · 03/11/2021 20:24

Have you been using any creams? I would take piriton for now (safe in pregnancy) and stop using any creams as you might be allergic.

I do think I might be PUPPP though if all else fails/ ruled out.

CurryandSnuggle · 03/11/2021 20:24

*it might be

RLou3 · 03/11/2021 20:25

@DoG87 I reckon it is Pityriasis rosea!! The Dr said it was ring worm at first as I had 1 patch on my boob.. then same as you it spread to tops of arms, belly, groin, tops of legs and back... it effects the trunk of your body... so weird! But harmless xx

DoG87 · 03/11/2021 20:28

Just had a quick look on google and that Pityriasis rosea looks pretty similar to me. I started off with one oval red patch on my boob. It was there maybe 3 weeks then it’s just spread & spread. The doctor said that first patch was a skin fungal infection like ring work but if I look at the pictures of Pityriasis rosea on google it looks similar to ringworm anyway. So I wonder if it is Pityriasis rosea then after all. Was you prescribed anything or does it just go on it’s own?

Exactly the same as me - my first patch was on its own for about 2/3 weeks.. grew bigger and then loads more came... nope not prescribed anything for it. Sunlight or sun beds help it massively but obviously being pregnant, sun beds are a no go. I remember Some people used head and shoulders shampoo to wash with and thought that helped them.. I think by the time I used that - it was going anyway... so not sure if it worked?! Worth a try though.... it will just run it's course... I remember being more ales clear and then suddenly a few more patches popped up! I felt like it was never going to go.. but it did......

DoG87 · 03/11/2021 20:47

Just googled Pityriasis rosea in pregnancy and it shows some scary things about miscarriages & complications
