As the title says really...providing baby is feeding well and no complications, how long were you kept in hospital after a ELCS?

Had section at lunchtime and stayed for about 48 hours. They were ready to let me go after 24 hours but I didn’t feel ready.

AdventuresAwait · 03/11/2021 08:25

Nearly 48 hours for me too but could have been 24 if I had asked for it.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 03/11/2021 08:27

30ish hours but I badgered the fuck out of them to go home.

mayblossominapril · 03/11/2021 08:31

I had an emcees was out in 24 hours

GoBrookeYourself · 03/11/2021 08:34

I had mine last Thursday (first afternoon slot so baby arrived at about 2pm) and was out by about 7pm the next day. They were v eager to get everyone out ASAP, partly due to covid and partly staffing issues but I think they would’ve let me stay another day if I needed it.

Upupupintheair · 03/11/2021 08:36

I had mine on Monday and was out yesterday (24 hours later) to be honest I wasn’t quite ready and still in a fair amount of pain. But I just needed to get home to my own space.

ByeBumpHiBaby · 03/11/2021 08:54

I had mine last Wednesday, last one down about 1pm, catheter out at 1.30am, monitored until 1.30pm on Thursday and then discharged.

48hrs, with twins

jackstini · 03/11/2021 09:25

EMCS - born Thursday, out Saturday

ELCS - born Wednesday, out Tuesday. I was ok but DS had jaundice

BonneMaman15 · 03/11/2021 09:25

30hrs

Fdksyihfd · 03/11/2021 09:27

I had my c section at 3pm, stayed 2 nights and went home at 12pm. If I’d had my baby earlier in the day I would have been ok to go home after 1 night and to be honest would have preferred that

MagicalFish · 03/11/2021 09:28

DC1 3 nights (EMCS). I was ready to go home after 2 but the doctor didn't make it round to me to discharge me until the next morning. I'd have discharged myself if I'd realised I could.

DC2 24 hours (ELCS). I was obviously more confident, baby was feeding well and I couldn't wait to get home.

DCINightingale · 03/11/2021 09:28

EMCS 3 years ago - happened 7pm Tuesday, out 5am Thursday. We pestered and pestered to go though, the ward was hell on earth.
ELCS 10 months ago - happened 11am Tuesday, out 4pm Wednesday.

spudjulia · 03/11/2021 09:37

Baby at 1pm ish and I went home the following morning. I really wanted to get home because the ward was so noisy during the night and I had an older child at home I wanted to get back to. The ELCS went well with no complications, I had support at home, I didn't exactly discharge myself, but I was very keen to go.

With a section they do want you up and about as quickly as possible to help your recovery. They will want to monitor your urine to check for blood (just to check your bladder is ok iirc) and there's a certain amount of urine you have to have in your catheter bag before they'll remove it, so if you're feeling ok and want to speed up getting home, remember to drink!

All of the above is based on my own experience, I'm not at all medically trained.

TheSpanishApartment · 03/11/2021 09:39

ELCS - 10 am Thursday, out 4pm Friday. Would have been earlier but I was waiting and waiting for them to discharge me.

terriblyangryattimes · 03/11/2021 09:43

The first was one night and let go about 5pm the next day (baby born midday the day previous)

The second (different hospital) policy was 2 nights minimum, so 2 nights it was but I would've been happy to go home after one.

terriblyangryattimes · 03/11/2021 09:44

I would say though that getting up and about as soon as you can will help, and take all the painkillers at the right times (set alarms or get s pill reminder app) for your best chance of being as pain free as poss.

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 03/11/2021 09:59

I was out 16 hours after an emergency CS

1st elcs with breech twins, lovely experience and I was discharged the day after surgery.
2nd cs I went in to labour the day before my elcs booking. Over 20hrs labour and cat3 cs with scar rupture and heavy blood loss. I couldn't wee after catheter removed the day after surgery so that had to go back in. 3 nights in hospital and catheter removal was successful after that so we got to go home. If it failed they would have still sent me home but with a catheter in, they would have removed after a week (glad that didn't happen).

Miliao · 03/11/2021 16:54

22hrs after my section. Felt great and couldn’t wait to get home and settle in.

ForkedIt · 03/11/2021 16:59

Went in for 7am, baby born just before 11am (someone else got to go before me at about 9am).
Went home at around 2pm the next day, could have been earlier but needed the midwife checks etc to be dishcharged.
Probably could have done it within 24 hours of baby being born.
Was happier to be at home than in hospital, my husband was more help than the hospital staff (though I think this was down to them being chronically understaffed and underfunded).

LilianRose · 03/11/2021 17:02

48 hours with twins. I needed to stay longer really and could have done with extra painkillers for 2 more days. But visiting hours were shit and I just wasn’t getting enough help with trying to breastfeed the twins.

They also asked me if I wanted to go home the day after! I could barely walk without fainting.
