35 weeks Growth scan

Hi, I had my standard midwife appointment yesterday and I was 35+5. My midwife measured my tummy and I was measuring at 34cm.

She's referred me for a growth scan to check all is okay, I told her that baby wasn't back up and she likes to lay on my back/side. She agreed that it's the likely cause, she also felt baby move and heartbeat was healthy.

I know it sounds silly but I have really bad anxiety and I am worried that even though baby seems healthy the midwife is sending me for a reason she hasn't told me.

Has anyone else has a growth scan at this point?

The fundal height measurements are a really rough guide and are notoriously inaccurate. I don't think I know anyone who's been pregnant who hasn't been sent for at least one, and it's usually nothing. It's a good point to get an extra scan anyway for reassurance and to check baby's position. Don't worry!

@Whatshouldicallme thank you! This is my second baby but didn't have one with DD1, guess because of that it's made me more nervous! Will keep that in mind though Smile

From reading on here for a while now it seems increasingly common for people to get sent for scans at 30 something weeks for all sorts of different reasons so I wouldn't worry (easier said than done of course OP!), measuring slightly behind is a common reason for them to send you to be checked as they get much more accurate measurements that way.

I had a scan after a couple of reduced movements with my first and then another at 40 weeks because my bump hadn't grown. With this one i think I had 10 scans in total because number 1 was indeed small in the end so they wanted to keep a close eye. This one did measure small again a couple of times but at the third growth scan she'd had a spurt and was up to average so even if your baby is a bit on the small side (which they may not even be, but the scan will tell you more accurately) that doesn't automatically mean you get a small baby at the end..it just means you get kept a closer eye on AND you get to see your baby again before they are born! I always thought the more appointments and care the better as any issues get picked up early, last time I poddled along and ended up with a baby that had a few issues at the end (nothing severe or permanent) whereas this time there would have been no chance for anything to get missed as I had so many different appointments, and had a perfectly straightforward and healthy baby at the end of it.

So long story short, it's natural to worry, but try not as it's quite a normal thing, enjoy seeing what your baby looks like now they're nearly ready 🙂
