Just a little bit of context on this: I’ve been with my partner for over 4 years (not married) and I’m currently 28 weeks pregnant with my first child.

We had a conversation today about what would happen if something happened during childbirth - has anyone else had this conversation with their other halves? Is there any way I can legally prepare for this before labour?

I’m not anxious about labour but want to be practical in the event of something happening.

Not too sure what you mean by ‘something happens’ - do you mean if you die? Or if medical decisions need to be made?

We had this conversation and looked into things and therefore got married at 33w.

I guess any medical emergency where I won’t be able to respond (I guess that also includes death but my mind isn’t necessarily going straight to that)

Solicitor here: They'd need to consult your next of kin so whoever is your closest family member as you're not married. Could try to get a health and welfare lasting power of attorney done but you're pushed for time on getting it registered in time. Could visit a solicitor and try for a general power of attorney bit not as legally binding.
