to conceive?

I always feel like an intruder (as a ttc-er) when I come on this thread!

I'm 28, and have been told the averages. I just wondered what the reality is. I apologise if you've all been asked this question loads of times before.

It took me two months to conceive dd at 19 (mc in first month). This time I'm on fourth cycle and it still seems unlikely I've caught.

Thank you for your help, and I wish you all well with your pregnancies.

6 cycles to conceive ds

6 cycles - early m/c

6 cycles - another m/c

6 cycles - dd

3 cycles later and I'm 14 weeks pregnant with number 3. And still in shock!

My cycles are long so 6 cycles could be about 8 months - felt like an eternity each time until this last (and final!) time.

Good luck, it's hard isn't it?! I know saying "try not to obsess" really isn't helpful, but i'm going to say it anyway!

ScaryHairy · 11/12/2007 21:38

DD- 7 months
This time - 4 months and counting.

As my cyles are irregular and DH is away with work a lot, I suspect that we have only every got the timing right a very small number of times. Oh, and I'm 32 (was 30 when I conceived DD).

tassisssss · 11/12/2007 21:39

Hulababy, that sounds like a long and painful journey. Hope you're doing OK and tha tyou get good news in March.

abbyscoffedallthemincepiesmeg · 11/12/2007 21:39

Thanks Jaamy, Port and Twinkle - cross posted.

Jaamy - you too. Good luck for cycle 5.

I'm pleased that PortandLemonaid and Twinklemegan have both got DS's, despite the difficulties.

I feel for women who have been ttc for years - it must be so frustrating. I've really struggled with BFNs for just four months; several years must be so emotionally draining.

You lot are so quick! Every time I post, there's half a dozen more! Pregnancy must make you swift at typing

I also had the same problem as ScaryHairy with irregular cycles and a DH who worked away from home frequently. The advice not to get stressed out is so so true, but almost impossible to follow. When I think of all the times I thought I must be fertile and DH was 200 miles away. I'd forgotten that actually - it's all coming back to me now.

Whatever you do try not to let it get to you like I did. I can't say it's not worth it, because it is of course. But it's certainly counterproductive.

tassisssss - thanks

Hulababy - best wishes for good news. I had a c-section too, and you can't help but wonder whether everything's still okay in there. I didn't have a brilliant birth (3 day labour, emergency C-section, 10lb 12oz baby) and the hospital wasn't great. I'm trusting that they did everything right in the op, when they did so many other things wrong. It's been 10 years since I had DD. Did you have any indication that your c-section had caused you problems ttc? Thanks

ps: thanks for posting on this ladies - its very encouraging for those of us TTC

ChaCha · 11/12/2007 22:25

3.5 years with DS1 (had endometriosis, 1 laparoscopy, cyst appeared, another laparoscopy) DS1 conceived 2 months later.

5 months with DS2 (DS1 was 5 months old - wasn't TTC)

9 months with DC3 (DS2 is 9 months old)

Never thought i'd have pregnancies after the endo but there you go

Twinklemegan · 11/12/2007 22:25

Hi Hidingbehindthesofa. I've just been looking to find some of the stuff I read when ttc but with no luck as yet. However, I think I'm correct in saying that successful implantation depends on the thickness of the womb lining, and hormonal factors can interfere with that. Also there may be something genetically wrong with the embryo, or it may not be developed enough, causing it to miscarry almost immediately. I think I once read a statistic that only 1 in 2 embryos will succesfully implant (but I might be remembering that completely wrong so don't hold me to it!) Hopefully someone else may be able to lay their hands on some reliable information.

This is why I get so worried about women doing really early pregnancy tests. Unfortunately there is a high chance that a pregnancy detected very early on will not be viable. In the past this would have just been passed off as a late period. I don't really know if it's that helpful to know otherwise.

thanks TM

LikerabbitsBX · 12/12/2007 10:31

3 months with both

hannahjb · 12/12/2007 11:12

First DS 1st time of trying, then diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, only have 1 ovary working and now pregnant with my second after, again, 1st time. I think being relaxed (and Pinot Grigot Wine) has a lot to do with it. Just enjoy all the practising!!!

Pickie - I also get quite fruity when I'm about to ovulate! I have a very regular cycle too, and can always feel the symptoms of ovulation.

I got PG on the second time of having unprotected sex when I knew I was about to ovulate.

I am still in complete and utter shock about it. This is our first pregnancy, we thought it would probably take about six months as we are both in our thirties and used to like a glass of red wine and a smoke.

caramelchewchew · 12/12/2007 14:24

Also another lucky one - took us all of about 2 days I think! We also thought it would take about 6 months so baby due slightly earlier than originally intended but certainly no complaints!

Best of luck

Pickie · 12/12/2007 14:25

SKF fruity much better word!

That is how I convinced DH to start earlier then he had planned but we were very very lucky.

Hope PG goes well!

nooonit · 12/12/2007 15:14

We somehow managed it the first month with dd (was 29 then)and the same with current bump (now age 33 - 36 weeks atm)
Quite fancied a bit more practicing really!
Think we were just lucky - I'm overweight and def not an angel in the glasses of wine department!

FlossALump · 12/12/2007 15:21

ds a couple of months after coming off depo (we were expecting a lot longer! . DD 5 months with one miscarriage.

funnypeCOOLYULEiar · 12/12/2007 15:22

3 months with ds (31 yrs), 2 days with dd (33)

minspugs · 12/12/2007 15:26

dd1 - a month (i was 20)
dd2 - 4 mths (i was 25)
pg 3 - one night (i was 27 but miscarried)
dc3 - 2 mths (i was 27)

4 months is more then normal, i think anything up to a year is. i know how hard it is though, with dd2 4 mths felt like an eternity. good luck

Naetha · 12/12/2007 16:14

4 days with this one - we moved into our new house and didn't so much as start trying, as just stopped not trying.

Got my BFP a couple of weeks later
