Pram advice!

I’ve started looking at prams and I am very lost!
I’ve got my eye on the Oyster 3, Nuna Mixx and BabyZen Yoyo but unsure if these are suitable for what we need and are worth the money. I’ve looked at the UppaBaby vista but think it might be too bulky and a little out of our price range (willing to go ~£900 if it has everything).

I do use a bus everyday to get to and from work and would be dropping baby off at daycare at the same time so something that folds easily if needed would be ideal but is still comfy for general walks round parks.
I am considering a sling for public transport but with the way some bus drivers are, I’m a little nervous about carrying a baby and being sent flying down the bus because I haven’t sat down in time 😂.
My partner should also be driving around the time baby is born so I do wonder whether a travel system that fits a car seat is worth it or whether it’s better to get that separate?

I guess my main thing is, is it worth spending hundreds on something that does it all or go for a standard pram for newborns and is suitable for public transport?

Help and recommendations are much appreciated!!

If you bus a lot then i would say Sling until 4-6 months then yoyo.

I bought a nuna (loved the mixx and demi) but i have a car and will be doing a lot of outdoor walking.
I plan to sell it ans switch to nuna around 12-18 months unlessss we go for a second
I have the nuna demi so its good for siblings.

Should say i plan to switch to the nuna for a yoyo!

Pizzaandsushi · 30/10/2021 18:18

@LivingLaVidaBabyShower thank you! I have to say I do think the yoyo looks the easiest to fold away and I guess he wouldn’t be going to daycare until 6 months so buses before then won’t be as frequent so don’t need to worry too much about newborn.
I think I’ll try and go some time over the next couple of weeks and see if I can test one round the shop. It’s just nice knowing other peoples opinions and at least have somewhere to start when looking as it’s all so overwhelming.

I would go into a few stores and test some out. There were a few I liked the look of online but when I tested them out in the store I found they were either heavy or difficult to fold.

I got the flip xt3 from mamas and papas as a travel system - it's good in that you can fold it down with one hand, easily fits in the boot etc.

I've had some issues with it though but I'm not sure if it's my particular buggy or the manufacturing of them in general.

Also I haven't had to use it on public transport as I drive so can't really comment on that.

I think I paid £700 for the bundle - included car seat, buggy, carry cot, as well as random extras such as foot muff, rain cover, cup holder, parasol & car seat adaptors. Full price it was something like £1300 but I don't think it's worth that much money.

The yoyo is really great i have a few friends who swear by it and i really liked it. The basinette is really low and a bit scary/flimsy looking (hence from 4-6 months)
They can also go on planes as hand luggage.
The wheels are super flimsy though so i wouldn't go for a secondhand one

Moominmiss · 30/10/2021 21:35

Yo-yo is fab for small and lightweight.

The egg quail is another one that folds nicely.

Etherealhedgehog · 30/10/2021 21:51

Have a look at the Ergobaby Metro. It folds almost as small as the Yoyo, can go as hand luggage on planes, larger rear wheel so maybe a bit less flimsy feeling. Also, what sold it for us - it's foldable with the newborn attachment, which is like a mini bassinet so baby doesn't have to be strapped in, unlike in the foldable Yoyo newborn attachment. Also costs less!

Bugaboo bee is another alternative to the yoyo. It's more robust but folds easily and not as bulky as most other prams. Not that great on rough terrain but then I imagine it'd fare better than the yoyo in regards to that. The yoyo wheels look really flimsy. But it's the most lightweight and compact though.

Greyeverywhere · 30/10/2021 21:58

We tested a nuna mixx in a pram store as i thought it looked the best but it was quite flimsy compared to others.
We went for the oyster 3 as my dh is tall and you can adjust the bar to fit you as well as the fact that if you think baby will be a taller than average 2 or 3 year old( my other dcs were) then the footrest is a bonus for them as it gives them much more space to grow.
The other thing we liked is that if you use the carrycot at home then you can actually rock it unlike other carrycots but this is only useful if you're planning to use it at home like we will.
It is expensive but I previously had a much cheaper pram for the other dc which ended up being an absolute nightmare to push on grassy areas etc. So I wanted a better one this time and the oyster is so easy to push Ithat I'm not regretting wht I've spent at all.

@Tee20x
Oh I hadn’t thought about Mamas and Papas! I believe there’s one at a retail park not too far away from us that would be good to visit. Especially if they have a big display of prams to push round and look at. Anything that can be folded down with one hand sounds good too.

@Moominmiss not heard of the egg ones but just had a quick google and think they look nice! Adding it to the list to try in person and nice to have a close alternative to yoyo if we’re not a fan. Thanks.

@Etherealhedgehog thank you. Another one I’m not familiar with but sounds ideal so will definitely look at that one. I really like the sound of it, if it folds down with the newborn attachment in, very neat and practical.

@allofthecheese thanks for the suggestion. I’m adding it to the list. I can’t imagine we’re going to be going on a lot of rough terrain as we live in a city but if it feels a little sturdier over another pram but still folds easily that might sway it for us and again it’s nice to have an alternative to check out.

@Greyeverywhere I have to say the Oyster 3 was the one I had my eye on initially, I just wasn’t sure if it was worth the cost given what we needed it for but I think I will still check it out. We do have a lot of tall people on both sides of our family and I’m above average height myself so maybe that’s something we should factor in. I also like that you can use the carrycot at home. Our house isn’t huge so if we can have something like that’s suitable like that instead of an extra bulky item that’s good.

Thanks very much everyone for all your recommendations. It’s a real help and given me a much better ideal of what to look for when we see them in person.

We have a Nuna Mixx (and were clearly comparing it against different prams from @Greyeverywhere, as we thought it felt the sturdiest). We're very happy with it, the big, sturdy basket is great if you'll do a fair bit of shopping without a car, and it's worked very well for our tall child. The height of the handle is adjustable too, but I think that's true of many of them.

That said, I wouldn't want to take it on a crowded bus everyday – I'd definitely look at one of the ones more focused on urban living if you'll be taking it on the bus everyday from six months.
