4w and feeling awful

Gentle handhold/advice needed.
I recently got my first BFP at 8dpo & today I’m 4 weeks since my LMP. We’re trying not to get too excited as it’s so early.

I feel absolutely woeful - I’ve been nauseous & vomiting for 48h, alongside a crappy headache which feels like my usual menstrual migraines. I’m veering between hot flushes and chills and I feel totally out of it. I threw up all over myself several times on the way home from work and was only able to keep a single Rich Tea biscuit down yesterday evening. Sips of sparkling water are staying down…for now.

I don’t know how I’m going to manage if this continues or even gets any worse, particularly as I have a very full on job that involves being in front of clients. I had no idea that this could start so early on. Is this unusual? All my friends mentioned their sickness kicking in from 7-8 weeks onwards.

Could you have a sickness bug?

20viona · 28/10/2021 07:26

Oh I feel so sorry for you. Not much advice to offer but I hope you feel better soon.

UncomfortableBadger · 28/10/2021 10:36

Thanks both - don’t think it’s a sickness bug as it’s totally unrelenting but in a way, would rather it was Sad

I'd say it's either a vomiting bug or you're most likely going to have hyperemesis gravidarum. I've never had morning sickness so early, it usually starts to kick in around six weeks, so for it to be so extreme so early for you I think it has to be one of those two things.

I'd get in touch with your midwife and GP ASAP once you're sure it isn't just a bug, as if it's pregnancy sickness it will almost certainly worsen over the next few weeks and you don't want to leave it till you're needing to be hospitalised or something else before you get help Thanks

My sickness kicked in at 4 1/2 weeks and lasted until 5 months. I had hyperemesis and it was awful but there are lots of baby safe anti sickness medications you can get from the doctor if you are struggling with the nausea and definitely get them if you want them. You don't have to put up with the sickness.
Try and keep your fluids up as I found that always helped with the sickness feeling. Ice lollies were helpful for me and a cup of tea in the morning helped too.
If someone mentioned bloody ginger biscuits to me one more time when I was sick, I think I would have murdered them!

That sounds like a stomach bug lovely xx

My sickness started exactly then (that’s how I knew I was pregnant) was awful! Couldn’t eat evening meals for over 3 weeks, thought of anything made me feel sick. Living off bread toast and crisps, drinking loads .. was not fun!! I felt the same, I am now 9 weeks and it’s gone .. started easing at 7 1/2 weeks, I am now freaked out as want to feel sick again and debating having an early scan xx

Hi OP.

My pregnancy sickness started like this around the same time. I went on to have hyperemesis gravidarum. It's awful and I really feel for you.

My advice is get in touch with GP and midwife ASAP. The research now suggests early intervention is key and there are lots of medications out there you can take, should it progress or get worse.

Wishing you all the best

SickAndTiredAgain · 28/10/2021 20:52

Sickness definitely can start that early, and if it is then you want to get some medication ASAP as it works better the sooner it’s taken. And if you’re already struggling to keep down liquid you will definitely need this.

But with the chills and feeling hot there’s a chance it’s a bug, maybe being compounded by pregnancy as well? But the NHS advises speaking to someone if you vomit for more than 48 hours anyway so definitely call your GP in the morning.

I feel for you! I was the exact same, as soon as I missed my period I was instantly sick. Unfortunately I remain very much the same and I am currently 19 weeks. I have been unable to work since approx 6 weeks because of the relentless nausea and vomiting episodes. I am pregnant with twins however and most people I've spoken to have suggested that may be why it's still happening. My only advice is eat what you can when you can regardless of what time it is or how odd the "meal" and take the medications religiously! Good luck it's all happening for a good reason Grin
