Hi ladies, need some help!

Had a growth scan today I'm 32 weeks, and the midwife said the water in the scan was slightly what she would like and his tummy is measuring abit bigger.

She said it could be numerous things, Diabetes being one of them.
Had my bloods done today to rule out infections and ive never had sugar in my urine.

I've got my Glucose test soon but in the mean time I'm trying to change my diet as I have been craving sweet things (from cake to fruit) and potatoes, which seem to be a big no no.

Can anyone let me know things I can eat? And what to cut down on? The advice I've read seems to be conflicting.

Any help or mean ideas would be lovley. Thank you.

Just wait and see what the test results show.
It might not be gestational diabetes at all.
Meanwhile it wouldn't hurt to try and eat healthily, keep an eye on sugar intake, but no need to restrict your diet unnecessarily.
You and baby still need calories and nutrients.

I really enjoyed a ploughman’s lunch as a treat.

Cheeses
Crackers
Pickled onion
Ham
Gherkins

the gestational diabetes uk website is excellent. i got diagnoised last week and it's been really hard to get my head around.

Basically meals should consist of mainly protein and veg with a small amount of good carbs - wholemeal pasta, rice, bread etc.

No low fat stuff e.g. yoghurts, milk etc as they are soooo sugary (this took me by surprise). full fat cheese, milk, yoghurts, cream etc are best.

Without a positive result I wouldn’t go on the diet yet as it’s restrictive. Split your food into 6 smaller meals and walk after eating if you can. No sweets etc and no juice.

Have a look at the gestational diabetes website. I wouldn’t restrict carbs too much without a diagnosis as you can get ketones which are bad for baby. Following the gestational diabetes diet while waiting won’t do any harm as long as you keep eating carbs and don’t try to starve yourself.

The gestational diabetes diet is about pairing foods, so having a fat and protein source with your carbs. You can still eat potatoes or rice or pasta, at least until you get a diagnosis and start testing. If you’re diagnosed and when you start testing, you might find that you can’t tolerate potatoes but you can tolerate pasta. Some things are better than others, so wholewheat pasta instead of white pasta and basmati rice or brown rice over white rice and making swaps to those while waiting on your results won’t do any harm. While waiting on a diagnosis, you can make sure you cook from scratch so you can make sure you’re not getting any hidden sugars.

Thank you everyone.
I'm going to curb my cravings and cut down on the potatoes Grin

Just had a look in my notes and the fluid is 8.8cm and his AC is 29cm (ish) and he's apparently about 4lbs.

Had a Google and it seems pretty normal for 32 weeks? Is anyone else similar?

Which is funny as both my DDs were considered small at this stage (wasn't when born, still 7lbs something!)

I’m 29 weeks and had a growth scan last Wednesday as bump was measuring small. At the scan the baby it turns out was measuring above the 90th centile at just over 3lbs. Crazy as on the outside I don’t look too big. Anyway, I had my GD glucose test that morning and was awaiting my results. Figured it had to be positive given baby’s size. Turns out it’s negative! Therefore i would do anything until you get your results

Thank you. Shouldn't of googled anything, especially birth stories. Was hoping for a homebirth with a birthing pool Envy

Now I'm feeling super sorry for myself.
Why do I do it to myself Envy

But you might not even have gestational diabetes, no point stressing about it until you find out!
