Daft to work until 38 weeks?

This is my fourth baby - previously I've finished work at 35 or 36 weeks. I'd like to work a bit longer this time because money is a bit tighter, and I'd like the extra weeks out the other side with the baby. I'm in a desk job, working 3 days a week, and looks like I'll be able to continue working two of those days from home up until I finish (with the other kids I was commuting into the office every day), which does make a difference.

Would you work up to 38 weeks? Have you? How uncomfy was it? How doable?

I've always gone overdue before, so not particularly concerned about the baby coming before I finish (if it happens it happens!), and had three straightforward pregnancies before this with no sign that this one is any different at this point - normal aches and pains and tiredness obviously, but no medical concerns.

I worked up to 38 weeks. My little boy is now 5 weeks old. I was totally ready to finish but I’m glad I held out! I was working from home so obviously it was a lot easier than the normal routine of going to the office everyday! Not sure how I’d have been if I wasn’t WFH. I had a nice week to myself before having my baby 7 days after starting mat leave, he was 5 days early!

I'm currently 37 weeks and still working. Working from home due to policy of doing so from 28 weeks.
Got 6 more working days left (not that I'm counting or anything!), then a week of annual leave then maternity leave starting 3 days before baby is due!
This is my first and no idea if I'll be early or late. I've got a sneaky feeling she'll keep me hanging though!

From the sounds of things, you should be fine - desk job, 3 days a week (2 of these from home). It sounds like a perfect set up and an option I would choose if I wasn't still working full time!

I worked full time to 32 weeks with my first and part time to 42 weeks with my second. The hardest bit was commuting on public transport, so I switched to driving towards the end.

Commuted to an office until 38 weeks and was absolutely fine, just a little tired as I wasn’t sleeping well at all by that point.

I would have been bored witless if I’d finished any earlier, but appreciate I was lucky to have a healthy pregnancy.

I’m working until 38 weeks because we are WFH still so it’s not too much effort 😂

I worked until 38 weeks with my furst. It was fine. Commute was a bit knackering and I’d fall into bed as soon as I was home, but it was manageable.

Had no.2 at 37 weeks, unexpectedly, or would’ve worked up until 38/39 weeks too.

Like you, I wanted the extra paid maternity leave after the birth.

Working (or plan to!) as a full time nanny until 39 weeks. However I have bits of downtime in my job, at other times it’s manic but I am trying to think if I was there mum i would still have to do it all and it keeps me active which I want to be.

I was induced at 37.5 and worked till the day before, would have worked till my due date if I hadn't needed to be induced.

PlanDeRaccordement · 29/10/2021 18:21

I worked until my due date, they all came 1 week to 10 days late.
Also a desk job.

I was born 6 weeks early so I planned to start maternity leave at 34 weeks.
I was glad I did as dd needed monitoring due to being small for dates at 35 weeks and she came naturally at 36 weeks.

Dd2 also arrived at 36 weeks.
