Hi all I self referred myself to my hospital and I’ve just got the appointment letter with an appointment for when I’m around 9 weeks. I’ve got my appointment letter and it’s over the phone? Is this normal now because of covid? And shall I be seeing gp aswell or is that it? Thanks

I was told mine would either be over the phone or she would come to the house, it's ended up she's coming Friday but I was told it's because of covid. No need to see your gp.

Ahh ok I thought as much. Thanks for your reply @MrsRubyMonday

My booking appointment was done face to face - questions, weight and height to measure BMI then bloods taken. I also got the flu jab.

Every trust is different!

@RuthW

You don't see a go for pregnancy
I mean GP!

You’ll need to get someone to take your blood and test your wee and BP I guess. People I’ve spoken too have popped to their surgery for that. Mine was in aug in person, took an hour and a half as it’s my 3rd so lots to go through 😄

WakeUpLockie · 27/10/2021 12:10

Also had a CO breath test too actually! Which was new for me I think. Weird!

Tee20x · 27/10/2021 12:11

I had my booking apt over the phone. I didn't start seeing my GP until later on in the pregnancy. I think from 24 weeks or something like that.

That was for urine screening, blood pressure etc etc.

WakeUpLockie · 27/10/2021 12:17

@Tee20x when did they take your 12 week scan bloods then? They combine bloods and info from the scan for various abnormalities. My MW took them at my 11 week appt. It’s understandable how it varies so much throughout the country as different trusts but crazy how much! Makes it hard to advise people doesn’t it!

Tee20x · 27/10/2021 12:20

I had my bloods taken at a midwife appointment at 12 weeks I believe.

When I first met my midwife I was given my handheld notes which had a sort of schedule in it for when I would be seen and by whom.

So my care was alternated between community midwife and GP and obviously the hospital for the typical scans.

I had the booking appt over the phone and then a quick appt for urine tests, height, weight and bloods

Where I am I had my booking (the basic info, history, chance to ask question bits) over the phone then got a pack of leaflets, my blood test forms and a urine sample pot in the post. At the time they were doing walk-in blood tests so I had pretty much the same booking process as I'd have had in clinic.

They did my height, weight, BP and CO after my 12 week scan and also did my urine and went through my booking blood results. They then sent me for another set of bloods for the chromosomal screening.

No GP contact needed past the initial referral (normal here, can't self-refer), for my jabs, and for a prescription.

girlmom21 · 27/10/2021 12:31

I had my booking appointment over the phone and the CO2 check, BMI etc normally done at the booking appointment were done at my 12 week scan instead.

WakeUpLockie · 27/10/2021 13:01

Ah I see. We don’t even have handheld notes 😄 it’s all done by app - letters, leaflets, test results, scan appointments you check the app. I love the handheld notes!

8dpwoah · 27/10/2021 13:17

And me, I hated the app and can talk in depth about how crap it is 😂 the paper notes were better for everyone as far as I can tell but hey ho!

SweetPeaGirl · 27/10/2021 13:17

My community midwives team have a weird combination approach to this. At 8 weeks I went in to have urine, bloods, blood pressure, height and weight done. It was a quick appointment. And then I had the full booking in app over the phone a few days later.

I suppose it makes some sense as the face to face part was shorter than normal, but it does seem like extra work for everyone.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 27/10/2021 13:25

I had to do a booking in appointment with the GP at about 8 weeks where she took some basic info, and then the 'proper' appointment with the midwife later on so they could take bloods, urine samples etc.
