COVID Vax in Pregnancy

Hey ladies

I had my first Covid vaccine just before I fell pregnant and now I am pregnant I am really nervous to get my second one. I am in Australia and my doctor is really concerned about me not getting it as where I live we are on a verge of an outbreak. I am really afraid of having a miscarriage due to it. Has anyone had the vaccine while pregnant and been all good?

Just need some reassurance.

Look on the covid board. Seems to be plenty of women who've had the vaccine in pregnancy with no issues

All the current research indicates that the vaccines are safe in pregnancy. The small risks of side effects are far outweighed by the potential risks of COVID in pregnancy, which include being more likely to need ventilated/ECMO, miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery... The vaccine reduces your risk of catching COVID and also makes it more likely that if you were to catch it, you'd only have mild illness and it would be less likely to pose a risk to you and your baby.

At the point when I had my vaccine back in May, over 90,000 pregnant women in the US across all trimesters had been vaccinated. The US started vaccinating pregnant women in December and so all those women who were pregnant with the first doses have now had their babies, even those vaccinated in the first trimester. There has been no cause for concern. You can read the studies and research to verify this.

The U.K. started vaccinating pregnant women in April and the research has built on what the US found. There are probably many more studies now than when I was looking. Many thousands of pregnant woman have had their vaccines and there has been no cause for concern. I had my vaccine at 12 weeks and 21 weeks. I’m nearly 35 weeks and everything is looking fine. I had a localised reaction to the jab both times - I had mild swelling, itching and redness at the injection site. I spoke with my doctor and the localised reaction posed no threat to the baby. The reaction to the second jab was slightly worse, it was a slightly larger lump and itchier. I managed it by taking an antihistamine for 2 days and two lots of paracetamol, one dose before bed and the next dose the next morning. However, I have been known to react in similar ways to other jabs so that wasn’t specific to the Covid jab or my pregnancy.

Had my vaccines at approx 10 and 19 weeks, no adverse effects, my baby is alive and kicking and all has been well on scans, I'm now 27 weeks pregnant and grateful to have antibodies to covid so myself and baby will have the best possible protection.
All the best with your pregnancy, congratulations!

I had my first jab (Pfizer) before getting pregnant, and then my second when I was about 7 weeks pregnant. I am now 23 weeks pregnant with a healthy, wriggly baby. I know several other people who have a similar story to me. I amd very pro vax, but still struggled at first with getting my second jab. What swung it for me was the increase in early delivery and stillbirth for women who had covid in later pregnancy and were unvaccinated. Incidentally, then a couple of months later my husband's colleague ended up having an emergency c section very early (about 27/28 weeks) due to Covid. Considering how high the Covid rate currently is in the UK I was extremely glad to have had the vaccine when I heard that story!

I'm in the UK and like you, wasn't sure whether to get it or not but decided to get it after doing my research on the subject. I was advised to wait until I was in the second trimester and got my jabs, I was given the Pfizer one.
I had no side effects after the first one, and a bit of a sore arm after the second one. Now I'm 31 weeks pregnant and I have tested positive for Covid. Luckily I didn't get seriously ill from it, and it feels like a cold. My partner also has it, and is feeling worse than me, he had the Astrazeneca, but quite a while back.
I am so grateful that I'm double vaccinated, it's not even bear thinking what could have happened if I wasn't, as they say how serious covid can be for unvaccinated pregnant women, especially in the third trimester and I'm due at the end of December.
This way at least my baby has protection from it as well, she's happily kicking as I'm typing x

Yes I had my first before I was pregnant and my second at about 6 weeks. Hundreds of thousands of pregnant women around the world have had it. There is no evidence that I am aware of that is can cause miscarriage or any other issue. There is evidence that catching COVID while pregnant is potentially very serious indeed.

JuneySunshine · 27/10/2021 09:12

Yes had my second one at 6 weeks and I'm now 20 weeks and all good.

Thank you ladies for sharing your stories, it is so encouraging to hear peoples stories first hand. I have tried to look at the research but haven't found any clear cut answers so it is really helpful to hear from real women who have had it during pregnancy!

I am very pro vaccination, but was slightly nervous about having vaccines whilst pregnant. I had my first before I conceived. Second dose at 6 weeks pregnant. Healthy pregnancy, scans and tests all perfect so far, and currently almost 19 weeks.

Everyone I know who has had the vaccine whilst pregnant have all had healthy pregnancies

I had my vaccines at 14 & 22 weeks which is the earliest possible time I could have them. I'm now almost 37 weeks & baby is perfectly healthy.

I found this Immunologist's research into the Covid vaccine in pregnancy hugely informative & reassuring:

Insomniacexpress · 28/10/2021 08:46

I had my first vaccine the week before I got pregnant and my second at 12 weeks. All fine here and all tests/scans normal. Also had flu jab and whooping cough jabs.

NinaJames · 28/10/2021 08:54

I had my first at 6 weeks and getting my 2nd jab next week at 16 weeks. 12 week scan was fine xx

Willthewashingeverend · 28/10/2021 09:44

There is zero link between the vaccine and miscarriage. There is however a strong link between pregnancy and serious impacts of covid. RANZCOG are strongly recommending it....they are the leading OBGYN in Aus. They have collated evidence for you and made their recommendations.
