19 weeks anterior placenta and kicks

Ftm coming back again with the anxiety questions I started feeling movements around 16 weeks... We'll it could have been gas or something but it felt different.. Like popcorn in my tummy
I was told early on that I an anterior placenta and it could be a while before I feel anything definitive

That being said I can't help but feel anxious when baby is a little quiet and little less bubbly than the day before. I can go a day or so without feeling any constant bubbles

Does this happen for other anterior placenta mums?
Logic brain is like... This is fine sure they are probably tucked in behind giving me guff but I can't feel it and then anxiety brain is like but let's chug all the ice water to make them jiggle

Thanks for reading this stupid long post xx

Hey i have anterior placenta too. Baby was very quiet until mabey 27 weeks. Now constant kicks. I'm 30 weeks, hope this helps x

Felt my first kick at 24 weeks.

Yes same here! I’m 26 weeks and have been feeling baby from around 18 weeks. Currently have very “busy days” as I call them where I can feel kicks and movements throughout and then some days can be nothing at all other than very subtle bubbles or “shakes”. I’ve found it really stressful and have been to triage a couple of times to check in and everything has been fine. One midwife told me (at around 23/24 weeks) that I should be looking to feel baby at least once a day and not to get too bogged down with it all but it is hard. Hope you’re doing okay x

didn't feel anything til about 23 weeks. Even now at 26 she has some very quiet days (i think when she's sitting below my belly button). I can only really feel it when she is above my belly button

Thank you all ! last night baby was twirling but it was slight but there. It's so stressful thinking about it as I went to A&E at 13 weeks due to spotting and the doc said that it will be 21/22 weeks by the time I start feeling flutters so I know it's fine in my head. I have to really focus somedays to feel them but I'm definitely feeling a more active baby this morning !

Same here with the anxiety, I think it's a common thing amongst those with an anterior placenta so you are certainly not alone

FTM here and didn't feel movement till closer to 24 weeks and that was gentle taps that would be easily missed if I was easily distracted. Didn't feel anything strong until I was way past 30 weeks and I can honestly say it's only been in my final few weeks (35 weeks onwards) I've felt movement that I certainly can't miss!

I'm 38 weeks now and baby has never seemed to have any sort of routine. My midwife reassured me that it's not necessarily about routine but more what triggers baby e.g does she/he kick after you've eaten something sugary etc. But even then I've found my baby's triggers change often which I'm guessing is all to do with how much she's behind the placenta

If you are ever really worried, call the midwives. Before 28 weeks, I had my community midwife come round twice to my home to monitor heartbeat and I've also been in hospital for monitoring twice after 28 weeks. All times all good thankfully, you do feel a bit embarrassed going but I've always had reassuring midwives who have always encouraged me to come in regardless.

If the anxiety is really taking over your life, talk to your community midwife to see if there is anything they can do for you. I think I've read on here before that one woman was offered weekly heartbeat monitoring for reassurance. Although I guess that all depends on how undersranding/busy your local midwife team are

All the best for the rest of your pregnancy :)

@llol031 Thank you so much this is so reassuring. Baby is a lot more active today after lunch thankfully ! it looks a good ham cheese salad sandwich hahaha. sometimes it's semi strong pokes and other days it's probably kicking the crap out of the placenta haha !

I feel so much more reassured. I may drop the call into the midwife all the same. My anomaly scan isn't for another 2 weeks and the wait is KILLING me

I only felt the whole baby rolling around at first.. nothing else.. then around the 20 week mark last week started the real kicks and can actually see them too on the belly ever since so wait just a few days xx

Perfect post as I'm sat trying to not worry myself over this. 19+3 with my 3rd and have an anterior placenta and not felt any definite movements. Sometimes I think it's the baby but it really could just as easily be gas. I definitely felt strong movements before now with my other 2 pregnancies so this is pretty frustrating. I have my 20 week scan on Monday so hopefully will see baby move! So reassuring hearing others didn't feel anything until later.

Maighread · 26/10/2021 22:51

@Orarewedancer best of luck on Monday x let us know how you get on. Its such a frustrating time even though people say it's a nice trimester it's constant game of is it wind or baby at the moment

@Maighread absolutely. And of course not long after I posted I felt what I think were a few kicks?! I had horrendous sickness in the first trimester which is still ongoing and I'm just waiting to experience some of the nicer side to pregnancy! Feel very hard done by with my anterior placenta 🤣
