Covid booster advice?

Hi girls. Wondered if anybody was in the same situation as me. I am double vaccinated - both doses were the AstraZeneca - and have been offered the booster jab. I am a bit scared about getting the Pfizer as the booster as there's not much data about mixing vaccines. I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant - any advice would be great?

Thank you x

I’m in exactly the same situation! Did you have yours in the end mines booked tomorrow

lawandgin · 08/11/2021 23:22

Pfizer is safe generally and in pregnancy. I don't see why (and haven't seen anything to suggest) there would be any more risk from mixing vaccines. I'd have it in your situation OP.

Soono · 08/11/2021 23:23

There’s a lot of data about mixing the vaccines; the data say that a mix and match approach is even more effective than having three jabs all the same. Smile

There’s loads of data about how safe the Pfizer vaccine is in pregnancy. There have also been studies looking at how effective mixing vaccines is for producing better immunity. This isn’t a new technique-it can be used for other diseases too.

There’s no real reason Pfizer wouldn’t be safe to have six months after an AZ jab, and I’d you’d been pregnant when getting dose one and two you would have been given Pfizer or moderna.

It’s your decision but Covid in pregnancy is nasty and I’d want to do everything I could to minimise the risk of that happening. The booster effectiveness is pretty stunning.

If you're eligible for it, I'd definitely recommend getting it! COVID is still a major health hazard and pregnant women are at increased risk of complications, so it makes sense to protect yourself and your baby as much as you can.

Derbee · 09/11/2021 03:18

I agree with everyone here. I’d get it

ilovemykids5 · 09/11/2021 07:05

@IndigoA how did you get on. I'm still unsure about mixing.

PurpleDaisies · 09/11/2021 07:44

What is it that worries you about mixing vaccines? The point of a vaccine is to provoke your own immune system to react. That’s how you end up with antibodies. The different types of vaccines do this in slightly different ways but that’s not really the important thing. Your body will have been exposed to part of the Covid virus so when it meets it again it can respond more quickly. The booster will most likely make that process so good that you won’t even get any symptoms.

Might it help to think that over the course of your lifetime you’ve had lots of different types of vaccines already with no ill effects?

GoodnightGrandma · 09/11/2021 07:46

It’s safe, and I’d say there might even be an advantage of having the different type of vaccine.

There have been studies-the ideal situation is to have a different vaccine.

Same situation, 29 weeks, had mine three weeks ago, mixed like you would.
Was worried too, checked with gp.
No side affects at all xx

robinp66 · 09/11/2021 08:11

I had mine in the end, no side effects at all and I'm confident I have made the right decision. My major concern was there just isn't any data out there really regarding boosters / pregnancy and the mixing of these two particular vaccines - but doctor and midwife were super confident to go ahead x

Yes I had mine today too and so far no side effect x

Glad you got it! As your pregnancy progresses and we go into winter the peace of mind will be worth it!
