Which pram? ICandy Peach, Orange or Uppababy Vista V2?

FTM we're trying to pick a pram that converts to a pushchair, and will also be useful for if we have a second child (or more) close in age to the first.

We've narrowed our choices down to the ICandy Peach, ICandy Orange or the Uppababy Vista V2.

Does anyone have experience of these prams and strollers and can give their perspective? We're very keen to get something that will last for more children, and be practical and convenient for city living but also work for nice long days out.

I know there are cheaper strollers around, but price isn't an issue as it will be a gift from extremely eager grandparents, who are happy to get the top of the line ICandy Peach Cerium with all the frills if that's the one we want, so we're just trying to decide which one is actually best on all the other factors.

We have the UPPAbaby Vista V2.

Pro's
Functionality it is brilliant.
The storage underneath is excellent.
We did a weekend music festival (hilly grass) and it was perfect to push.
The carrycot is snuggly.
Great height for lifting baby in and out (and now for passing him snacks).

Con's
The metal frame scratched easily (John Lewis said in the shop that it wouldn't). So we are getting the whole pram replaced by them.

I have been doing a lot of research as John Lewis said we could replace with any other. The iCandy's I don't like the shiny material.

Not that you are looking for car seat advice but...The Cybex Seat is amazing. The 360 spin and lie flat function was amazing when baby was a newborn. Though it is expensive the isofix also fits the next size up seat so a potential saving.

OverTheRainbow18 · 22/10/2021 22:48

We have the Orange. We really like it! Our son is 3 now but we'll be using it for our second. The basket underneath is a great size, and it has the built in buggy board which will come in handy even though we won't need to use it as a double. It also doesn't cost much to convert it to a double. The only downside is that it's quite big, takes up a lot of room in the boot of the car but that's never been a problem for us. I'd definitely pick it again!

thismeansnothing · 22/10/2021 22:55

I'm just coming to the end of my use of my icandy peach (had the peach jogger previous.) I love it. The carrycot is tons bigger than the older model so lasted till my daughter was 6 months. Big basket. And i liked that the seat unit zipped onto the frame so I didn't have an entire seat unit clogging up the house and visa versa. Although it was a right sod to actually change from carrycot to pushchair and several YouTube videos and a call to icandy and ALOT of swearing was involved.

The downside. it's bulky and heavy which will be a pita if your relying on sticking it in the car for out and about. We don't have to often but it would be tiresome of its regular. Also we have to take the wheels off when it goes I'm DHs car (mazda2). It's fine in my nissaan note. Otherdownside which I've only noticed now DD is bigger, is that when it's front facing with the seat unit it's really badly balanced. It's really awkward to tip onto the back wheels to go up and down curbs. Always feel like the handle is going to snap. And the rain over is crap and steams up within seconds and I never felt good having it on and DD sweating to death inside.

BerryTowner · 23/10/2021 22:06

Thanks for all the info!

@LittleGungHo that’s good to know about the scratching easily on the Uppababy. I'm glad John Lewis agreed to replace it for you. Functionality wise is it stable with more than one child? Any issues getting it up the curb like @thismeansnothing found with the Peach?

@OverTheRainbow18 @thismeansnothing So hard to choose between the two icandys. I tried them in the shop and like the height and flexibility of the Orange but don’t like the fold on it. The peach seems nicer and more compact, much easier to fold, but I don’t like the lower number of configurations for when you have a second.
@OverTheRainbow18 do you find the fold on the Orange finicky after practising for a while? Do you fold it with the seat on?
@thismeansnothing do you find it awkward to remove the seat on the Peach to fold it? Do you use the carry strap much? I really like the idea it has a strap, but I tried it in the shop and it seemed convenient but quite heavy, especially when 6 months pregnant!

I think I’m leaning towards getting the ICandy Peach. The main downsides seem to be I don’t like the configurations as a double as much, the carrycot is a bit lower so more bending over to pick up baby, it’s heavy, and that thing about it feeling like it will snap going up the curb.

We haven’t tried the Uppababy in the shop yet. I want to see what the fold is like as this seems like it’s best feature and the fact it’s light and sturdy.

I found the fold on the Orange fine once I'd done it a few times. We were originally hoping to have a second sooner and preferred the double configurations on the Orange and it seemed more spacious for two. We folded it with the seat on, but not the carry cot. We also had a maxi cosi car seat that we used with it. I don't have experience using it as a double but I have used the built in buggy board and it worked well. Good luck deciding!

We have the uppababy and I absolutely adore it. It's so light and easy to manoeuvre. I often can be found pushing it with one hand whilst on the phone or drinking a coffee. The fold is super easy. Wheels pop off to clean and are sturdy enough for every terrain we've tried so far. Only negative is it fills our entire boot, but we do have a mazda 2 which isn't a particularly generous space anyway.

Sorry if this sounds like a commercial 😅 we've just found it really good.

Tibtab · 23/10/2021 22:32

I’ve got a peach and we’ve just got a new frame so we can have the double configuration. Ours is the 5 model so don’t know if they have updated the folding mechanism. Ours your have to take the seat unit off before folding.
It’s heavy to carry but easy enough to put up. Ha ha I know what people mean when they say that sometimes the instructions aren’t the clearest.
I think it’s got great suspension and we live out in a rural village so the size works for us. If we lived in the city and had to use public transport more I think it would start getting annoying.
The double configuration takes up a lot of boot space.

nc87653 · 23/10/2021 22:46

Like you OP, price no issue for us. Had a bugaboo then got pregnant v quickly again so needed a double buggy.

Narrowed it down to the Vista and the Peach, we went for the Peach and I loved it!

Was so sad going back to the bugaboo when older DC started using a buggy board (iCandy didn't have their own brand buggy board and didn't want to risk attaching something generic to it that might make the pram faulty). Loved my peach so much!

nc87653 · 23/10/2021 22:47

Wanted to add, we are also living in the city and no problems getting on buses, in cabs etc with the peach in double mode!

pyjamadays · 23/10/2021 22:58

We have the uppababy and I love it. We had the Cruz with our first and then had to get the vista when our second came along as we needed a double buggy. I love how easy Uppababy prams are - taking the carry cot off/putting the seats on or off/folding it etc. Makes such a difference, especially when you have two little ones. Also the basket is huge which was very useful. It’s smooth to push and I could push it with one hand even with a 3yo and 1yo in it. It’s also pretty light, which makes a big difference and going up and down curbs was absolutely fine even in double mode. I used to have to bump mine up and down a short flight of steps to get in and out of our front door, and it always felt super stable and was easy to do (I used to take one of the seats off first to do this, I wasn’t quite strong enough to do it with both of them in it!)

We’ve just had our third baby and I’m looking forward to using it again Smile although as a single pram this time!

MindyStClaire · 23/10/2021 22:59

We have a Vista (not the Vista 2), we got it for DD1 who's 3.5 and are still using it for DD2 who's just over one. I adore it. It was by far our best buy for the baby. It's just so well built and I assume that's the case for the newer model as well. The basket is fantastic.

I will say we tried it as a double and while it was useful for us in one or two particular situations, it's absolutely rubbish as a double - very very difficult to steer, the complete opposite of it as a single. I suspect most of these are the same - adding a second seat just makes them too big and bulky, so I would resign yourself to buying a proper double if you do end up with a small gap and just buy whichever works best as a single.

TheVolturi · 23/10/2021 23:02

Uppababy vista are amazing and really big and roomy, you will likely get the longest use out of this.

thismeansnothing · 24/10/2021 00:00

@berrytowner the seat unit comes off really easy to collapse the frame. Don't use the strap as when I do collapse it it's going strait in the car so no need to be carrying it.

As for the carrycot being low you do get some extra brackets that clip into the frame that make the carrycot or the seat unit higher

Chezrone · 24/10/2021 07:38

Hello! I have the orange and it was perfect - easy to collapse, sturdy enough for cross country walks and a massive basket that I could do a half big food shop in. It is heavy but I think all proper first time / flat bed buggies are. I would say - my now 2.5 year old stopped wanting to use the orange at about 1.5 years, so we got a light weight push chair and the Orange is now in the loft but will come back out for #2 who is due shortly. Orange has a ‘step’ that apparently can be used as a buggy board too and attachments to use as a double buggy but not sure the toddler would like it….. so might be I use a sling and pushchair when I have the two of them and the orange only when it’s just me and baby….anyway I’m rambling but I loved my orange!

Chezrone · 24/10/2021 07:51

…. Also to echo others- I struggled with the orange the first few times to collapse… better remind myself how it works ha! And the carry cot was excellent, I used it for weekends away saving taking a travel cot whilst he was small ( 6 mo or so?!)

Twilightstarbright · 24/10/2021 07:55

I chose the orange over the peach as the hood was bigger. Once you learn to fold it, it’s really easy. I loved it as a pram.

creamandberries · 24/10/2021 07:58

Don't buy one that can convert into a double if money is no issue- you'll massively regret it. I did a lot of research and they're clunky and not practical in comparison to the prams that are designed to be just singles or just doubles. I have two extremely close in age and the best doubles are the tandem ones like the mountain buggy. I use my bugaboo fox and baby zen yoyo on the days/occasions where I just have one child with me, but the mountain buggy is ace for when I have both.

StarStruK · 24/10/2021 08:00

I used an Orange as a double when my second daughter was born and my eldest was 20 months. We loved it and my older daughter especially enjoyed standing on the back. It is big and and bulky and can take a few attempts to work out the configurations and how to fold, but it's smooth and very sturdy (also loved the huge basket!) and as someone else has mentioned, the hood is a really good size!

User00000000 · 24/10/2021 08:21

I had the peach and absolutely loved it as a single. It was great over rough terrain too as I live in a very rural area.

However I tried to convert it to a double and it was an absolute pain in the arse. We did it once then just bought a buggy board.

If you are planning two close together I think it's better to buy a proper double, or do sling/older child in pram then buggy board, or buy a proper double.

I don't know anyone that has successfully used their travel system as a double.

Tibtab · 24/10/2021 09:09

I heard that the Out and About Double Nipper is one of the better doubles. I was debating whether to double up my Peach or buy one of them.

Ended up doubling up the Peach. Babies are 18
Months apart.

The problem with side by side buggies is living in central London or major city, where you rely on buses, and going through narrow doorways and small boutique shops, they very often don't fit!

Yogity · 24/10/2021 15:52

I tried both of these out when pram shopping and preferred the UPPAbaby. I didn't like on the iCandy (Peach) that in order to fold it you had to sorta slam the handle with a bit of force. I'm sure you get used to it but I had visions of grandparents struggling with it and frustrated car park moments for myself!
With the Vista I loved the easier fold and the fact I wouldn't need to take the toddler seat off to close it. Also liked that the carrycot was sleep safe. Both felt pretty similar to wheel around.

In the end I went with a NUNA mixx next. I found it similar to the Vista but a bit lighter and more compact for my small boot with an easy 1 hand fold. Only thing was it didn't convert to a double. After speaking to a friend with 2 kids she said that converting hers to a double pram made it feel a bit unstable/top heavy and unsuitably cumbersome. She recommended an Out and About double instead which she says is a dream and so much easier to push and manoeuvre (often with one hand!) With this in mind I was happy to forgo the double aspect of the Vista and found the NUNA fitted my needs a bit better.

MindatWork · 24/10/2021 16:03

I have an icandy peach (the 2018 model, just coming to the end of use now as dd is turning 3).

Agree with others it’s really roomy, the carrycot is lovely and we used it inside instead of a Moses basket so got loads of use out of it. The basket underneath is massive and fab for shopping.

The fact you can zip off the carrycot fabric/structure and then zip on the upright seat is great, and the seat is a decent size.

However I agree the raincover is rubbish and the base is suuuuper heavy. As pp said you have to be quite firm with the ‘slamming’ action to fold the base, and I really struggled picking it up off the ground to put it in the car boot, even weeks after a c section.

It’s a lovely pram though - we called it ‘the tank’ as it was so big, but the suspension is great and it’s seen us through lots of woodland/rural walks.

We did buy a lightweight joie stroller that umbrella folded when dd turned around 14 months, but the icandy suspension is great and has seen us through lots of woodland/rural walks.

Can’t help on whether it’s good as a double though! Smile

pancakesonsunday · 24/10/2021 17:46

@nc87653 creamandberries suggested the mountain buggy duet though- which is extremely narrow- the same width as a wheelchair and therefore fits through all doorways.
