C section hospital bag

Hi,

Going in for a c section in over 2 weeks time and sorting my hospital bag.

Will a pack of 22 nappies be enough? Hoping to be out in 24 hours.

Was also thinking 3 vests, 3 sleepsuits, 2 hats (warmer one for coming home in), a blanket, a pair of scratch mits, a cardigan and a few muslins.

Thanks!

22 nappies for 24 hours?! That's loads 😂 I'd bring them anyway in case you end up staying longer for any reason, but you wouldn't get through that many in a day so can take some out if you want to save space. They don't need to wear hats indoors so one hat would be enough.

Is it the carry pack of nappies? I took one of them with me too, both my DS's had to go to NICU so I ended up in longer and needed more anyway, but that little pack was more than enough for one day. Try not to pack too much. Your partner or whoever will be visiting you can always bring more things the next day if necessary.
Make sure you've got allllll the big knickers and pads for yourself though Grin

We were in 3 nights.

I had a pack of 24 nappies and had some left to take home. 1 pack baby wipes. 10 nappy bags (put more than 1 nappy in each). 3 bodysuits & sleepsuits, in up to 1mth & 0-3 as were unsure which she'd fit in but only needed the 0-3. 2 hats, they also gave us a little knitted one that we could keep. 6 muslins. Mini nappy cream. Foldable changing mat and antibacterial spray to clean it. Used 3 boxes of the ready made formula bottles with sterile teats.

Oh and a cellular blanket too

Peppermint tea! Drink lots of it after your section plus it helps with weeing enough to get the catheter out .

Make sure you've got stuff for you in there too!

  • maternity pads (at least 10)
  • extra long charging cable
  • multiple pairs of granny pants
  • snacks
  • water bottle
  • extra long charging cable
Etc

Are you going to hospital in a car? I had a bag to take in, and then an extra ‘spares’ bag in the car which stayed in the boot until home time. That way my DH could bring in extras if needed when he visited. My spares bag had a second pack of nappies/wipes, some bigger (0-3) and smaller (tiny baby) clothes (I took newborn size into hospital), more maternity pads, clothes etc. Although the only bits he actually had to retrieve were the pads (take more than you think you need!) and the tiny baby clothes when we had a weeny one!

Definitely pack some peppermint tea cut really helps with the trapped gas pains you get x

Bring a plug board, I say this to everyone who asks what to bring to hospital! Then you can charge a phone, iPad, partners phone etc.

A small fan, even in winter, hospitals are very hot!

I would bring a few more bits of clothes, my first had reflux and got sick a lot and I ran out of clothes.

Good luck, I had a c section and it was really good. Wasn’t in much pain on recovery etc.

Maddie2802 · 21/10/2021 23:14

Get lots of maternity pads, I used them to have across my c-section cut for extra cushion/protection.

I agree with the peppermint tea as wind pain is no joke 😂

Good luck, I had a planned section and it was so calm 😊

A cool cotton nightie or t shirt/loose vest to sleep in. I was roasting! Heavy duty pads and large granny pants that you dont mind getting a bit stained. I started on Arnica tabs straightaway to help with the bruising as well. Order yourself an extra long charger lead from Amazon because you’ll use that loads at home too!

Also perhaps some snacks for after babies born; its a mission to reach for anything in the first 24 hours. Also I didnt realise that baby could always nap in with you between feeds! I waited ages with a crying baby the first night because I physically couldnt lift him out of the cot!

Yes :) partners can stay 24/7 and can come and go so can always leave extras in the car just in case x

Just to add to everyone else's excellent suggestions - if you are traveling back home in a car, bring 1-2 pillows to sit on for the car ride back.

Sounds silly but after my 1st section, i was swearing bloody murder at DH as I could feel every single road bump and pothole. Agony! The 15 minute car ride home took 30+ minutes because I made him drive well under the speed limit Blush
