Hi all sorry for the post if it’s TMI. I am 7 weeks today I went for a scan at 5+5 due to pain on one side pregnancy was seen in my uterus and re scan booked for 2 weeks later. At the scan the midwife said my bowels where really full and I needed to get them moving. Since about 5 weeks I haven’t been going the toilet and have had trapped wind. I had a little blood when wiping the other day but this morning I have had 2 inches worth of blood on tissue when wiping. I am 95% it is coming from my back passage as I know I have been constipated and straining a lot lately. I called EPU and they just said monitor it. Waiting for a call back from my GP to see if they can do anything. Anyone else had this done early on ?? am very anxious about this whole pregnancy doesn’t seem to be as straight forward as I though !

Hey, I suffered constipation in my last pregnancy. It's hard because you feel sick but you need to eat fibre (whole grains but also vegetables and fruit), drink lots of water and exercise, like going for a brisk walk. You can also take laxatives and use ointments if it's painful. Your GP will tell you which are safe. Even if they do prescribe laxatives etc I would recommend getting into good eating and exercise habits else it'll just keep happening throughout your pregnancy.

Yep I had it.
I was doubled over in pain at one point I was that constipated.
GP gave me laxatives and I was a lot better.
Get some prune juice down you.

Currently 11 weeks, I was severely constipated from about 6 weeks until about 9 weeks but it has been better the last few weeks or so, make sure you get plenty of fibre and that you are drinking enough, try not to strain as it won't help if your body isn't ready and just causes problems. I was going every three days, by the end of the second day I didn't want to eat as I was so uncomfortable but it definitely helped to keep things moving through. I'm also lactose intolerant so upped my dairy which helped but probably not the best idea.

Thank you am seeing my GP at 4 o’clock but will definitely try the going for a walk and eating more fruit and veg I’ve heard kiwis are good! It was just the blood it scares the life out of me !

LadyoftheWoods · 21/10/2021 13:48

@Flowerbug1994 yes kiwis are great! It can be scary to see blood but it's nothing to worry about. Hopefully GP will prescribe some laxatives to help clear you out!

Eat dried prunes. Or even soak some on water and let them swell up and then eat them. You won't need many just like 2 or 3 a day.
Weetabix at brekkie

SareBear87 · 21/10/2021 14:19

I had the same, weetabix breakfast seems to have sorted me out! Also (might be an old wives tale!) but my mum suggested drinking 250ml of apple juice a day. I now have both daily and feel a lot better!

Flowerbug1994 · 21/10/2021 15:59

I’m going to Sainsbury’s now I think prunes, weetabix and apple juice are on the shopping list 😂😂 thanks for the reassurance girls j nearly had a heart attack when I seen blood this morning xx

The constipation is horrific. All of the above is great advice, I purchased some cheap senna too. Definitley don't let it get too late, I've had the same issue due to letting things get too bad. Also this might be specific to me but avoid bread!

Fybogel in fresh orange twice a day. Weetabix for brekkie. Lots of walking. Try not to strain on the toilet, I've had constipation for about 5 weeks since my IVF with all the progesterone and pregnancy and learned to just sit on the loo, feet up on something and pretend I'm blowing out birthday candles. Also sitting on the loo and turning to the left and right. No idea how but it helps me loads and means I don't strain or push. DP said he felt a bit bunged up yesterday, tried my tips and all sorted! He no longer thinks I'm mad with my odd toilet behaviour 😄
