1st Covid jab when pregnant

Hi all, I imagine there’s been countless threads on this subject but I couldn’t see any recent ones. I’m 15 weeks on Friday & due to have my first dose next Tuesday. I’m a support worker for adults with autism so close contact with others is unavoidable. I felt really confident in my decision to get it, until a few have told me to wait until baby is born.

I’m just wondering those who had their jabs during pregnancy, is/was all ok? With you & baby? I have looked through RCOG but wanted to ask on here too. I do know the risks of Covid in third trimester, but just some slight background info I suffer with anxiety, especially when it comes to having new medication & not knowing what side effects may come with it.

Thanks guys 😊

In terms of the poster Hmumoftw- I really don't see how you can 'change your mind' about having the vaccine. It's been available for such a long time- if you wanted to get it you definitely had it by now. So you probably were already against it to start.

Thanks @MissChanandlerBong81, baby is doing as they're told and staying put so far! Smile

I had the jab while pregnant. Baby has since been born, all healthy no concerns.

@SylvanasWindrunner we are all being told that having covid and then the vaccine is like the ultimate immunity but yet he nearly died? Makes sense, I've already had covid and only lost my tase and smell so I'll take the risk thank you

I got the first jab in the second trimester and the second one early in the first. I’m 38 weeks now and the baby is just fine. I feel good about having done it and it alleviates any anxiety I feel if news reaches me that I’ve been in contact with someone who’s developed symptoms.

I would say that I didn’t find it an easy decision to make because at the time (in May/June), advice on it was all over the place. That’s really changed now and pregnant women are strongly encouraged. I’d be questioning anyone telling you to wait until after the birth when it’s so obvious that unvaccinated pregnant women are more at risk of difficulties if they remain unjabbed!

@Hmumoftw0

Iv personally changed my mind on having the vaccine now after seeing a few friends become very unwell with covid after the vaccine in their 20's/30's, I don't understand why young people are becoming so unwell with it when fully vaccinated, a close friend ended up on a ventilator at 31, thank god he survived but he had covid last year with no symptoms? I won't get it until baby is born after that!
I’m sorry to hear your friends have been very unwell with covid, but that seems an illogical reason to delay vaccination to me. Surely if they hadn’t been vaccinated, they might have had it even worse ?

OP, I had my first jab before I got pregnant and my second jab at 5-6 weeks. No side effects.
Baby is currently doing well (everything looked great at 20 week scan).

I confess I was a bit nervous about having it in my 1st trimester. But I read the guidance and some of the research - the small but very real/significant risk of early delivery and stillbirth for pregnant women contracting covid in the 3rd trimester was my greatest motivation for getting the jab.

gogohm · 20/10/2021 17:19

Why are you so nervous about being vaccinated? You would have been eligible months before you were pregnant due to being a carer. Millions of pregnant women have been vaccinated with no issues

jennytogether · 20/10/2021 17:23

I’ve had both vaccinations while pregnant, one at about 14 weeks and the other at about 26 I think! Baby is due in 3 weeks, and all was fine and good at my growth scan yesterday.

I understand that it feels all a bit new and unknown, but the real risks of catching Covid while pregnant are known… and aren’t good at all. I’m 3rd trimester at the moment and already breathless and tired. I’m fairly certain that my body would cope badly with Covid and I’m just keeping everything crossed that I avoid getting the virus again before I give birth. (I had Covid in spring 2020 and it was scary then on a non-pregnant body!) x

Thank you all for your responses, you have definitely put my mind at ease. I know I should have the vaccine I just wanted to speak to people who have gone through what I’m about to experience. Just for people wondering why I haven’t got the jab yet even though I’m a carer, my anxiety simply got the better of me. My priorities have simply changed since being pregnant & I know I need to basically man up & get jabbed for the both of us 😊

I hope your all well & good luck to you all.

*woman up!
No man about it
Well done on your decision to get the jab OP, more important now than ever.

That’s great OP. All the best for the rest of your pregnancy.
