Sickness Bug - 9+4 weeks

Hi ladies,

Since 2am last night I have been up with diarrhoea and sickness. Finally at 2pm today I stopped being sick, however, the diarrhoea remains (not as bad thankfully).

I've tried so hard to keep my liquids up, including water and some Lucozade Sport. I've had an apple, banana and some toast all day.

From being sick, my lower back is slightly sore and I have light cramps in my abdomen. Will all be ok? I've been resting on and off today and have barely left my bed!

To make matters worse our 15-month old has chickenpox. Never ending!!

I spoke with my midwife and she said the lower back twinges and cramps are probably not related to the bug and pregnancy related. I'm going with this but looking for reassurance for any other mums that have had a sickness bug this early on? 🤞🏼

suck on ice cubes because you mouth can absorb fluids even when your stomach wants to chuck it all back. Otherwise, tiny sip to swallow every 5 minutes (stomach absorbs a little straight fluid thru its own lining, too).

I predict you'll be ok but still sympathies. I had similar 20.5 years ago when pg with DD (who was fine, of course).

My daughter brought home a sickness bug from nursery when I was 10 weeks pregnant. I was lucky and seemed not to get it too badly but everything in my pregnancy has been fine since. I think your body automatically protects your growing baby. 12 week scan was normal and I'm now 18weeks and feeling lots of kicks Grin

Not quite the same as I had it much later on (ended up staying in on a drip) but just wanted to offer sympathies! If it helps think of all the ladies that have hyperemesis, and their babies are in much better nick than the mums are for a lot of the first trimester and even beyond- you will be fine I'm sure.

When I had it they said to me no rush with trying food, just to focus on getting fluids in (ice lollies etc as pp said also a good one) even if they weren't all staying in, as it were. Keep doing what you're doing and hopefully you'll feel more like yourself tomorrow although you are likely to have a day or two more of the muscle soreness from tensing and so on. The joys!

Thank you everyone for your replies! I've woken up feeling much better so thankfully a 24 hour bug!

Just wanted to say I had a horrible 24 hour vomiting bug in august before I was pregnant. I had horrendous abdominal cramps, so I’m not sure why your midwife is so confident they’re not to do with the bug. I wouldn’t assume they’re anything sinister - probably just your gut working to get the bug out of your system, like it should!

babyboybluex · 21/10/2021 16:51

I'm sure my midwife was just being overly nice since it was our first chat @MyKidsThrowFood but all good! I had a private scan and actually measuring further on now with an active baby 🤞🏼

Oh I see what you mean about the midwife. I was thinking the other way round - that it would be less worrying if they were bug-related!!

MyKidsThrowFood · 22/10/2021 09:43

Did they say anything about the chicken pox, out of interest? I have a 22 month old who hasn’t had it yet and it’s going round I think! But I assume it’s okay as long as I’ve had it?

babyboybluex · 25/10/2021 13:41

@MyKidsThrowFood No talk of chickenpox as I have already had it - our son has just recovered and back to nursery today. No issues with myself so I'm sure you will be the same (if your child gets it) x
