MAT leave start dates

Can anyone help me with some Mat leave questions.

I haven't had my first scan yet but from my calculations based on LMP im due 14th May 2022. This is a Saturday.

So....

I plan on taking some annual leave before my due date, maybe a couple of weeks.

Does my Mat leave have to start on my due date? Or as it falls on a Saturday can I ask for it to start on the following Monday? Or does it. It work like that?!?!?

Thanks everyone!

The earliest you can start you maternity leave is 11 weeks before your EDD. You need to notify your employer of your intended dates no later than 15 weeks before EDD

If the baby arrives before your maternity leave starts, then it must start the day following childbirth (regardless of the date it was originally set for)

Your employer can also start your maternity leave if you need time off from work firba pregnancy-related reason after 36 weeks

My due date is a Sunday. I requested for it to start the Monday (next day) as I was taking holidays before then but was told I couldn't do this as it can't start after due date.

As PP says if baby comes before then it will automatically start

I’ve requested my mat leave to start 2 weeks before my due date and I’m going to be taking 2 weeks annual leave before that so I’ll finish at 36 weeks. Basically your mat leave can be requested to start anytime before your due date (within 11wks) but not after it

I was allowed to 'start' my mat leave on a Saturday (my due date) for paperwork even though I worked Monday to Friday ofccoe hours.

I'm due on a Sunday and starting my ML the day after my due date, I did the same last time as well.

I'm due 6th Jan and have started mine for 4th Jan (will have the usual Xmas holidays beforehand so technically starting 24th Dec). I'm going to be induced at 39 weeks apparently though so obviously if baby is here before 4th Jan my mat leave will automatically start for the day baby is born

You can start your maternity leave when you give birth or your due date, whichever is later. It’s also the week (starting with the Sunday) that you are due to give birth in that is used.
