Itchy rashes during pregnancy

Hi everyone!

I am currenlty pregnant in my second trimester and a few days ago I developed a horrible itchy rash around my belly and breasts.
In general, I have a very sensitive skin and my body has been itching on and off since last month. When it started, I got really freaked out because I read about cholestasis in pregnancy, the serioussness of the conditin, etc. I contacted my GP and midwife team and they said I need to have blood tests done to check the function of my liver, so they can rule out cholestasis. Thankfully, the results came back ok.
Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, recently, I developed a really itchy rash around my belly and breasts. I called the hospital and informed them of my symptoms, they checked me out straight away and the doctor said she thinks it might be PUPPP. I have researched and read about it a lot, it normally appears during the last trimester but sometimes, it could appear sooner. As I still have a long way to go, I am not sure how to get rid of it, the itchiness is horrible and very uncomfortable. I have been using extra virgin organic coconut oil as I read that it helps with the itchiness and reduces inflamation but I am not sure it has helped me at this stage. In fact, I think it might have made it worse.
Has anyone else had the same problem and what did you do to help yourself?

Hey, I had PUPPP in my last trimester of my first pregnancy, it is very distinctive though and usually the only parts spared from the rash is your face and belly button. Is your rash around your belly button? If it is I would imagine it’s more likely to be an allergy, maybe to a cream you are using. If it is PUPPP I feel for you as it is horribly itchy, and I couldn’t sleep with it. What did help alleviate symptoms albeit only for a short time was calamine lotion.

There is some soap you can buy that smells funny but some people swear by it, if you’re desperate. It’s called Pine Tar soap.

Hope this helps SmileFlowers Hope you are ok

I meant to add: Unfortunately the only thing that gets rid of PUPPP is delivery. Sad Mine cleared up within 2-3 days of giving birth.

Hello CurryandSnuggle! Thanks for this!
The problem is I am still in my second trimester and there is still a long way to go. It is itchy and quite uncomfortable, sometimes even painful. And you are right, I don't have it on my belly button, it is around the belly and under breasts. The area looks like I have been stung by bees or nettle rash.
I have been applying soda paste during the day and I also bought the Pine Tar Soap, will be using this tomorrow.

Also, I have read that it is more likely to occur to women carrying boys. On my scan, the midwife said, we are having a girl, so I am a bit confused.

It is a long time to be so uncomfortable, I really feel for you Flowers

Hopefully the combination of calamine lotion and pine tar soap will help. You could also try oat baths.

It is really tough when you’re going through it Flowers
