Can I request Dr do blood tests? Think I'm having a miscarriage

I first had a faint line on a first response test at 9dpo, it got minimally darker until 12dpo but every 48 hours didn't look anywhere near doubling and they all remained faint. Even yesterday at 15DPO it was there but no where near as dark as the control line and little to no difference from the previous 3 days.

My last pregnancy the progression was so clear and fast, this time they're all faint still. All tests done with FMU.

Did a CB digital and it said 'pregnant 1-2' making me 3-4 weeks. This was done with FMU and barely any fluids before bed so very concentrated urine. Going by my LMP 18th Sept I should be 4.5 weeks so was hoping for a 2-3 weeks. I know this can be off but the urine was dark and pretty dehydrated.
I did take a Tesco own brand which is 25mlu I believe and that was also a faint positive.

I usually ovulate between CD 15-16 but it may have been CD17 this month. So I'm not 100% certain but give or take a couple days. Usually 28-29 day cycles and regular. Should've got my period Sat/Sun so that's 2-3 days ago.

Along with the lack of progression I've been having no symptoms (full of them with my last) and a bit of left sided pain which comes and goes. I've freaked myself out thinking it's either a chemical pregnancy or ectopic. I can't shake the feeling something isn't right, I don't know how to explain it better 😔

I've got an appointment this afternoon with my GP, can I request they take bloods to monitor the HCG or refer me to the EPU? I'm so worried of being told they won't help me, It's making my anxiety sky rocket!

Sorry for rambling on I'm just feeling desperate right now.

My experience was that no I couldn't request that. The GP and EPU wouldn't provide that service on request and instead it's wait and see.

I paid for private HCG tests instead. If you want to go down that route you need two tests 48 hours apart to see progression. One test alone won't show you much.

ShaneTheThird · 19/10/2021 12:34

Sorry you are going through this op. You can ask them but they may not agree so just be prepared. When I had a mc at 12 weeks I wasn't even allowed to go to the epu for 4 days and only for a scan, so just be prepared that they may send you home to wait and see what happens. Flowers

The first response tests are top to bottom 13,14 and 15DPO

The CB digi was yesterday at 15DPO

I took a CB digital on Thursday and Friday which both said not pregnant... so the HCG must have risen slightly which is the only thing giving me hope.

I'm really sorry Flowers

In my experience, no, they won't do blood tests on request. The EPU wouldn't either. They were nice; but said that what would be would be, and as they couldn't do anything about it going wrong in the early stages, they wouldn't be able to assist. They told me to stop taking pregnancy tests as they shouldn't be used to monitor progression, and to wait and see.

You might get referred to the EPU, but again, they may not see you. I was able to be referred for same-day or next-day appointments, but they wouldn't do scans, and only did one cervical check, so it wasn't really worth it.

That said, despite a complete lack of symptoms and a lot of worry and bleeding; I'm now 31 weeks pregnant, so it worked out for me. I hope it does for you, too Flowers.

ChubbyK · 19/10/2021 12:38

I think at this early stage they would tell you to wait as nothing can be done either way.

HereWeGoAgain24 · 19/10/2021 12:40

Aw no unfortunately I think that's what I suspected Sad to be told to go home and wait it out, stop POAS and hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Would they not refer for the left sided pain? That's my main worry.

What others have said really. Testing won't give you the reassurance you're looking for. I don't imagine there is any medical support or intervention that will assist you.
It is a case of wait and see.
That's why the first trimester is so critical as a lot needs to fall into place to establish a successful pregnancy, even if fertilisation has occurred.

(I hope that doesn't sound too heartless, as I've been through MC at 14wks, surgical intervention, & few years delay, before a successful pregnancy)

They may be interested in pain on left side if you confirm a positive test, but really you need to talk this through with your GP
HereWeGoAgain24 · 19/10/2021 13:42

@DoubleTweenQueen nay they get me to take a pregnancy test there?

OP posts:
DoubleTweenQueen · 19/10/2021 13:54

@HereWeGoAgain24 I wouldn't have thought so. You will probably need to confirm a positive yourself.

What sort of pain do you have?

The GP is not likely to offer anything unless a suspected ectopic?

kirinm · 19/10/2021 14:01

With an ectopic your tests wouldn't be getting lighter. There would be progression of some sort (although it can be pretty minimal).

If you have genuine pain then they may offer you blood tests but one set won't tell you anything and they may not think you need two sets. I think it is probably dependent on your GP to be honest.

TheCraicDealer · 19/10/2021 14:01

I had something like this back in June/July. Negative cheapo test, late period, very faint positive on a First Response. Because of how faint the line was on the FR even when I was a late I didn't hold out much hope. My "period" arrived a week after I was due.

If you're concerned about an ectopic (just had one of those too) then definitely call the EPU.

BelieveInRainbows · 19/10/2021 14:05

That looks like a chemical pregnancy to me, sorry OP. I had exactly the same and getting the 1-2 weeks on clearblue really gave me false hope. When I did another a few days later it said not pregnant. In my experience, EPU simply asked me to test again a week later and to call them back if still positive. They can't do much this early unfortunately. Even with some cramping or pain, unless very severe or accompanied by other worrying symptoms, they're unlikely to see you. GP might do bloods depending on their policy, mine wouldn't so I had private bloods which confirmed what the tests already told me.

I went on to have a later miscarriage after my chemical and then fell pregnant again after that and am currently 18 weeks. So although this one wasn't meant to be, it doesn't mean you will never have the chance again. Wishing you the absolute best of luck Flowers

TheCraicDealer · 19/10/2021 14:43

I'd add that when I say "period" I mean I know it wasn't a period, it was the end of what was unfortunately a chemical pregnancy.

I got pregnant again in my next cycle- that was sadly an ectopic but it was just terrible luck and completely unrelated to the chemical. It goes to show though that my cycle did return to normal quickly after the CP. Good luck OP.
