Hi all!

I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant and have just started to put my hospital bag together.
I have pads and just normal high waisted brief/pants which I'll just throw away.

I've also been thinking about getting some tena ladies incontenence disposable pants just in case I bleed heavier but with these being for urine and not blood would it still do the same job?
I'll attach a picture below of the ones I'm pondering over, any recommendations would be great!
Also, did you use/feel the need for a peri bottle? X

Hi OP, I don’t think incontinence pants are recommended as they are designed to move moisture away from the skin and are not breathable so are not great on healing skin. I also think you are supposed to change maternity pads every couple of hours (to reduce the risk of infection) anyway so I’m not sure something more absorbent would necessarily be needed. Didn’t try a peri bottle but have heard good things. Best wishes Flowers

Maternity pads (boots etc) and disposable knickers for the first couple of weeks.

I used the boots maternity briefs and big pads initially. Luckily everything was manageable and I moved on to big black pants once out of hospital.
I found incontinence pads useful to have on the bed at home as I was worried about leaks.
I used the incontinence pants you've attached after I had a miscarriage and needed to go out to a few events. I put a pad in them but agree with pp that they're not the most breathable.

Hi OP I used similar (always discreet) with a maternity pad for the first few days as I was bleeding pretty heavily and was in hospital for a week and I found them really good, and I didnt find them unbreathable they were very comfy so may be a worth a try!

THEY ARE GREAT!!!! Why didn't I know about it for my first 2 births?! SOOOOO much more comfortable than any pad!

ItsSnowJokes · 18/10/2021 14:59

I used tena's with a maternity pad so the tena was just a back up really. Never had any problems and they kept it all contained and secure. Just stick a maternity pad in them.

Get maternity pads! The weave on sanitary towels and inconti pads can catch in any stitches you might get:

You do not want this

DaisyChain16 · 18/10/2021 15:00

I got a pack of tena pants and always pants but hated them - they made me so hot and sweaty! They also felt like they would catch on my stitches which scared me when I needed to pull them down so I quickly binned them!

Best things were M&S big cotton knickers about 3 sizes bigger than my usual with lilets maternity pads (they have wings and we're much better than the boots ones imho) Lil-Lets Maternity Pads | 30 x Extra Long Maxi Thick Pads with Wings | 3 Packs of 10 Pads https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07LBLQSWP/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabcYDYZPFNS9H18HWT7FFZR??encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I'm still wearing the M&S knickers now! Not that I need to but they washed so well and are just so damn comfy! Don't think I'll go back to wearing underwear in my normal size haha

Used these both times with a maternity pad. So if there’s any overflow from the pad, the pants catch it, but the big comfy pad is next to your nethers. I just change the pants as regularly as normal pants (or if there was a lot of leakage from the pad - happened maybe once with each baby).
Make sure you get high waisted ones In case you have a c section.

grey12 · 18/10/2021 15:00

Btw I didn't put a pad in them and it was fine

Nat6999 · 18/10/2021 15:22

The blue Tena ones are best because they are unperfumed & have the least chance of leaking.

OliviaL9530 · 18/10/2021 19:05

Aw thanks everyone! Some great advice from everyone. I think I'll buy the always discreet and pop in a pad in case of excessive bleeding but if I them uncomfortable or not ideal I just won't wear them xx

Also peri bottles are brilliant especially if you do have stiches - they only cost a couple of quid so I would pack one - good luck, getting the hosptial bag ready is so exciting x

FrangipanFlower · 18/10/2021 19:51

I just used an empty sports cap water bottle filled with warm water and a drop of tea tree oil as a makeshift peri bottle (didn’t know they were a thing when I had my daughter)
