Varicose vein near your lady bits!

Don't want to gross anyone out, but am a bit panicked. Shaving my bits earlier, ready to go swimming (have to do it in the mirror now, as haven't seen my nether regions for weeks due to big bump), when noticed a bulgy varicose-veiny type thing running down one side of my bits, underneath and then have way across the lower bit of my bum cheek. Am I a freak? Have never had dodgy veins before?!

Umm yeah, it's a pile. Haemmorrhoid or however you spell it. It'll probably get itchy soon. All part of the joys of pregnancy!

suwoo · 09/12/2007 20:42

I had one too on one flap. Its not a pile IIRC, it is a varicose vein, well thats what my gynaecologist said to me. Mine went away pretty much straight after delivery you'll be pleased to know

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 09/12/2007 20:59

I had a vein in the same place as suwoo, it wasn't raised but it was a localised burning pain and I think it was a vv. It also went away straight after delivery. I wouldn't worry about it til afterwards.

scrummyfairyontopofthetree · 09/12/2007 21:02

Mine was the same as suwoo, albeit 8 years ago.

merryberry · 09/12/2007 21:15

my auntie had one right inside the runway, as twere.

she said cheerfully.

it will go. you are not a freak.

SmileSam · 09/12/2007 22:31

Thank you all, am laughing now at your descriptions and no longer feeling depressed. (Maybe the two glasses of Cava I've just had have helped my disposition!!!)

I found one last week on the right side and last night another popped up on the left side, think I'm growing testicles. I'm in bloody agony, tried support tights today and they help a bit. I risked a look in the mirror and it looks bloody awful, black and blue. Not letting DH look as one day I would like to have a sex life again!

whomovedmychocolate · 10/12/2007 00:30

Hey Suwoo and what do we call varicose veins of the botty???? That's right - piles. ROFL!

madamez · 10/12/2007 00:38

Ask your MW at next appointment. (she probably would like a good laugh) - walloping great suddenlyobvious veins in funny places are all part of the joys of pregnancy. If it hurst at all then seek medical help, otherwise no worries, at least it's not piles. They will come later.

IndulgeMePlease · 10/12/2007 00:42

My Mum found out she was preggers with my much younger sister when my Dad (why did they tell us this?!?!) found her varicose vein in a similar place to yours SmileSam.

Not sure whether it freaked my 13-year-old semsibilities out more that my Dad found it or that he described it as looking like "a bunch of grapes". They're gross, my parents.

IndulgeMePlease · 10/12/2007 01:33

Please will someone else post on here so I can be distracted from my memory of my Mum's varicose vein?

Soemthing dramatic would help, like yours was an exact replica of a balloon modelled poodle, or something?

Thank God for that, it gave me a shock. It goes when I lie down!

Whomovedmychocolate- its not a pile though is it?? Piles are just up your arse, or on the outside of course. This one is a flap vein not an arse one!!

To SmileSam, I found wearing a big thick night time towel helped give my fanjo a bit of much needed support too.

NoNameToday · 10/12/2007 13:48

I think the term you're looking for is Vulval Varicosities, they very rarely cause poblems at delivery. HTH.

TutterrysChocolateOrange · 10/12/2007 13:49

ah, you need an old thread of mine - will link...

TutterrysChocolateOrange · 10/12/2007 13:52

gingerninja · 10/12/2007 14:48

Ooh yes, disappear almost immediately after birth but boy mine freeking ached while pregnant. I had to litterally walk around holding my fanjo in place some days. TMI I know but I've never seen a thread on it so am pleased to be able to share such a story.

bluedomino · 10/12/2007 18:22

DH keeps calling mine my Volvo Veins!

bluedomino · 18/12/2007 23:53

Had an appointment with my obs yesterday, he saw my problem area and referred me to a Tissue Viability Clinic, where I was measured up for special maternity tights, they measure your ankles, calves and sort of your pantline. The nurse told me to keep my legs moisturized as the tights dry your legs out. Thought I'd mention it, in case it helps anyone else.
