Where is your cot bedding from?

I have a DD, but she is 11, so really feel like a FTM!
Expecting baby #2 and I am really struggling to find cot bedding now that Mothercare and Kiddicare are no more …
I can’t find any sets online that don’t include bumpers and I’m not sure whether blankets you can buy individually (e.g. cellular blankets) will be warm enough for a winter baby.
Where is your cot bedding from? Any links would be appreciated!

Depends what you mean by cot bedding...not being obtuse I promise! The majority of people now, I think, use the variations on sleeping bags rather than blankets, certainly for night time anyway.
The Gro company make sleeping bags for newborns of a certain size up and there are various others and swaddles that I know lots use but I haven't myself. So in terms of cot bedding it's just sheets that fit, from anywhere, and I like the Little Green Sheep mattress protectors.

We didn't get actual cotbed bedding for DD til she turned two and that was silentnite stuff from Asda.

Apologies if I've misunderstood what you're after, I always find TKMaxx has a good if random range of thicker blankets but we got almost all of ours as gifts anyway, I just bought a few cellulars as backup. Very rarely used the blankets other than out for walks or for day sleeps.

Dunelm

In terms of cot bedding for a new baby, we had dd in the next2me crib and just had a sheet on the mattress & she was in a sleeping bag.
When she transferred to her cot at 6 months, we had the same set up (sheet and sleeping bag) and when she turned 1 we added a toddler pillow. And that's all she has now (with the addition of 1 comforter) at 22 months

We brought fitted sheets from tesco and then used sleeping bags. DS is a winter baby and after about a week we realise blankets just wouldn't work long term as he was already trying to kick them off even when tucked in. He's never been too cold or needed anything more than a sheet and his sleeping bag.

Sleeping bags! Something I never had with my DD, definitely something I will look into.
I already have a few fitted sheets.
How many sleeping bags do you think I’d need?

My DD was a very sicky baby and we had 3 sleeping bags on rotation; some nights we used all 3. She was a December baby so they were all 2.5 tog.

Sleeping bags are far safer than blankets. A safe cot is an empty cot.

mine had gro snugs then merino lined sleeping bags (very reasonable second hand) til coming up on 2. It was just a case of popping a jersey sheet on her mattress, you can get those anywhere really.

Now she has a toddler bed it's easy to get sheet, duvet and pillowcase sets.

ladycarlotta · 17/10/2021 14:33

oh, and I think 3 sleeping bags is about right. You may need different togs depending on the temperature throughout the year but that's why I liked the merino sleeping bags - they were good for the majority of the time.

Summer baby had two 2.5 and two 1.0 so I've bought this baby a new 2.5, I think 3 will be enough as they dry fairly quickly (especially with the heating to help) and I can't see us using the 1.0 but you never know so won't get rid of them until they won't fit 😂

Once she's outgrown the newborn sizes (about 5 months if I remember correctly but I do have small babies) she will go into the supermarket versions, I just like the specificity of the cut/fit of the Gro ones for little babies.

I'd also get a room thermometer (or a judgy egg as we called it) as then you have got that and the guide from the packet that more or less tells you what to dress them in under their sleeping bag, saved us disagreeing as newbie parents and will use it again with this one as it takes some of the guesswork out, we've not had a cold weather newborn before!

I've bought bedding from ASDA. But as others have said I've got sleeping bags too, ASDA, Tesco, Matalan, Next, Morrisons all have them (I'm sure everywhere does, thats just where I've seen them)

T0rt0ise · 18/10/2021 13:03

Another one that used sleeping bags for the cot and then just had cellular blankets for the car/pram. We had 3 2.5tog when newborn and then got other togs/sizes as needed. I think 3 is a good number, especially if you don't have a tumble dryer.

My boys are 2&3 in December and they still use sleeping bags for bedtime, I'll be using them again for next little one due in feb
Far safer than cot bedding, just a sleeping bag and fitted sheets, I'd definitely get more than 1 though in case of leaky nappies or sick
I often used little sleeping bags when out and about in the pram when mine were newborn, (you can get some with arms) don't have to worry about them pulling a blanket over their face then

Chelyanne · 18/10/2021 13:28

I've got lots from asda. Dunelm & Mammas & Pappas do some lovely stuff too.
I use the sleeping bags for the 1st year, duvet and pillow go on after that.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 18/10/2021 13:30

Newbie does lovely and unique prints. I've got my DD two of their floral bedding sets over the years. We both love them. Very feminine, so it depends what you're wanting. They do have other non floral patterns as well

Chelyanne · 18/10/2021 13:30

We have a fleece footmuff on the pram rather than blankets as they kept getting caught in wheels and filthy.

RedMarauder · 18/10/2021 13:34

My sheets, cellular blankets and sleeping bags were from supermarkets including Asda, Lidl and Aldi. (We then got given some.) We had to be careful to ensure DD wasn't too hot even though she was born in autumn.
